Discuss the differences between the role and responsibilities of an administrative assistant and a senior administrative assistant.
Admin Assistant
Creating filing systems both manual and electronic.
Organising resources.
Processing and editing information.
Providing support to each functional element of the organisation
Senior Admin Assistant
Assist management in the decision making process.
Co-ordinate resources efficiently.
Train subordinates to ensure the delivery of an effective support system.
Identify and implement effective solutions to problems which may arise.

Explain what is meant by a Personal Development Plan and discuss the importance of this document to the employee.
Enables an employee to assess their current strengths and weaknesses to allow effective future development.
Highlights areas where the employee has excelled and those which require further development. They can agree a training programme with their line manager.

Explain the importance of target setting to both the employee and the employer.
It is essential that targets are set and monitored so that deadlines are met and projects completed.
A target can be set for the short, medium or long term.
The employee needs targets set to complete the task on time and the employer needs targets set to ensure the project is ready in time for the buyer.

Identify ways in which a Line Manger can monitor and control an employee’s targets.
Check them regularly.
Have an appraisal
Agree on the terms
Alllow access to whatever the employee needs to access

Discuss the importance of effective time management to the employee.
Ensure targets are clearly defined and have a good structure so that the task can be broken down into manageable pieces within an appropriate timeframe for completion.
Communicate with Line Manager at all times so that problems can be rectified immediately and not hamper the completion of the task.
Tasks should be planned accordingly – an organised employee will be able to cope with any unforeseen circumstances as he/she will be equipped to deal with the situation.

Describe the benefits of teamworking for an organisation
