    • The Calaveras Visitors Bureau Mission Statement: To serve our members and community by supporting sustainableeconomic growth through the promotion of tourism in Calaveras County.
    • CALAVERAS TOURISM HIGHLIGHTSStatistics for the most recent year financialreports are available:• Tourism generated $150.5 million in spending in Calaveras County in 2010. This total is up 1% from 2009.• In 2010, travel spending in Calaveras County generated $59.1 million in earnings, up 3.2% from the previous year.• Visitors spent $26.2 million on retail while in Calaveras County in 2010.• Tourism generated $6.2 million in local & state taxes in 2010.
    • TOTAL TRAVEL SPENDINGTravel spending in CalaverasCounty reached a peak of$155.9 million in 2008, beforethe economic downturn.At its lowest point since 2005,tourism generated $147.8million in 2009.With an upward trend, 2010showed an increase of 1.8%and the trend continues to bepositive.
    • VISITOR SPENDINGWhere do tourists in CalaverasCounty spend their money?As you can see from thisgraph, tourism directly benefitsnot only restaurants, lodging,retail sales and recreation, butalso Calaveras County gasstations and grocery stores.
    • TAX GENERATIONHow does the county benefitfrom all that visitor spending?Tourism in Calaveras Countygenerated $1.3 million in localtaxes in 2010.In addition, tourism inCalaveras County generated$4.9 million in state taxes in2010.This brings tourism taxgeneration in Calaveras in2010 to a total of $6.2 million,up 4.4% from the previousyear.
    • TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAXTOT (also known as the “tourismtax”) is a tax assessed on roomnights in our lodging facilities. InAngels Camp the TOT tax is 10%,while in unincorporated CalaverasCounty, the TOT tax is currently6%.33% of the TOT collected inunincorporated Calaveras County,and 13% of the TOT collected inthe City of Angels Camp isreinvested in the CalaverasVisitors Bureau.These funds make up the majorityof our annual funding and allowus to continue generating tourismbusiness for Angels Camp andCalaveras County.
    • ANGELS CAMP TOTAngels Camp’s TOT rate wasraised from 6% to 10% in 2003,effectively doubling TOTcollections by 2004.The graph below shows AngelsCamp’s TOT generation of $787.5thousand compared to CalaverasCounty’s $358.9 thousand for2011.
