The European Register of Exercise Professionals <ul><li>EREPS has been a central theme of EHFA’s thinking since 2005 </li></ul><ul><li>Business plan developed in 2006-2007 and approved in principle by EHFA Board early 2008 </li></ul><ul><li>Principles of modus operandi taken to GA and approved in April 2008 </li></ul><ul><li>Then “tested” at EHFA’s 1 st fitness forum Hilversum May </li></ul><ul><li>EREPS came into operation July 2008 with </li></ul><ul><li>trial period to test systems </li></ul><ul><li>EA Fitness Project starts in October ‘08 </li></ul>

The European Register of Exercise Professionals <ul><li>MoUT signed with EHFA and </li></ul><ul><li>SkillsActive (REPs UK and EREPS) Oct ‘08 </li></ul><ul><li>EREPS and EHFA review national register implementation in 2009 </li></ul><ul><li>Requirements for operating a national register: </li></ul><ul><li>Industry support </li></ul><ul><li>Government support </li></ul><ul><li>Independent </li></ul><ul><li>Not-for-profit </li></ul><ul><li>Support EHFA/EREPS objectives </li></ul><ul><li>5 stages for implementation </li></ul>

Stage 1 Nominated agent/partner to accept the concepts and key principles – usually national association <ul><ul><li>Stage 2 </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Complete a short questionnaire that determines eligibility, resources available, and timing for implementation. EHFA confirms if criteria is being satisfactorily met </li></ul>Stage 3 A letter of offer made by EHFA to start the detailed planning stage with the nominated partner/agent. This will bind both EHFA and the partner/agent into an exclusivity arrangement for a limited period of 60 days whilst stage 4 is fully developed. Stage 4 EHFA SC offers Memorandum of Understanding and Trust (MoUT) and EREPS a draft service level of agreement. Agent/partner develops business plan. Final proposal presented to the EHFA Board for approval and for the MoUT signed by the Chairperson of the EHFA Standards Council. Stage 5 Implementation and monitoring
  6. 6. <ul><li>EREPS exists to give consumers, employers and partners in medical professions better confidence </li></ul><ul><li>Provides clarity, and evidence about the workforce </li></ul><ul><li>EREPS gives individual recognition of “occupational competency” </li></ul><ul><li>A career structure for ongoing professional development </li></ul><ul><li>Based in Brussels coordinating national solutions </li></ul><ul><li>EHFA Standards Council sets the standards </li></ul><ul><li>and technical criteria – not EREPS </li></ul>The European Register of Exercise Professionals

The European Register of Exercise Professionals <ul><li>A public register of qualified exercise professionals – must meet minimum standards </li></ul><ul><li>Based on some key principles of the EU: </li></ul><ul><li>Lifelong learning programme (LLP) </li></ul><ul><li>European Qualification Framework (EQF) & Bologna (HE) </li></ul><ul><li>Vocational Training Credit System (ECVET) </li></ul><ul><li>Quality assurance of VET (EQAVET) </li></ul><ul><li>Improved mobility of workers </li></ul><ul><li>Europass </li></ul><ul><li>Transparency and mutual trust </li></ul><ul><li>Self-regulation is the preferred route </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>A fundamental outcome for EREPS is that it will increase the skills base of the industry over time </li></ul><ul><li>The challenge is not to get onto the register(s) but to stay on </li></ul><ul><li>EREPS/EHFA have developed the outline of a programme for lifelong learning with three parts/components : </li></ul><ul><li>The maintenance of professional competencies to remain registered, </li></ul><ul><li>The development of professional competencies – this is the real CPD part, and, </li></ul><ul><li>The social and personal responsibility of being an exercise professional </li></ul>Lifelong learning for EREPS members

  13. 15. <ul><li>SOME NOTABLE EVENTS AND FACTS </li></ul><ul><li>EA Fitness Project has helped EHFA accredited training providers now at 29 – the oxygen for EREPS </li></ul><ul><li>National registers development as part of EREPS Programme in BG, CH, DE, DK, HU, LT, and SE </li></ul><ul><li>National register launch in NL on 1 st October 2010 </li></ul><ul><li>Register has grown over 250% with members in 28 different countries in past 12 months </li></ul><ul><li>Re-registration rate of +70% </li></ul><ul><li>The theory works </li></ul>
