A continuation from the previous month’s discussion:
You need to write a spec for something that isn’t in your spec masters and the manufacturer provides a guide specification section.
• Why do manufacturer specs seem so different from my other specs?
• Is it likely that they conform to MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat?
• Can I use manufacturer specs without editing?
• Can I simply add other competing manufacturers to make it an open spec?
• Are there liability implications for retaining paragraphs that with detailed requirements for installation equipment?
• What do I need in the Execution article besides "comply with manufacturer recommendations?"
Manufacturer-written specs are a very useful starting point, but may contain irrelevant information, may leave out essential subjects, and may have hidden ’gotchas’ that limit competition and make the section a closed spec. Join our regular hosts and guest panelist Phil Kabza, FCSI, CCS, SCIP, who writes many manufacturer specs, for this continuation of last month’s meeting on how to use this resource to your advantage.
