    1. Introducing the Word Processor Presented by: Mrs. Lewis Dr. Alexander
    2. Objectives
      • Given the background information, students will be introduced to a word processor, and creating a new word document, saving a document, opening a document, and closing a document in Microsoft word.
    3. What is a Word Processor
      • A Word Processor is a computer application that is used to produce easy to read, professional documents such as letters, resumes, and reports.
        • Example
          • Microsoft Word
          • Coral Word Perfect
          • Word Perfect
          • Notepad
    4. Creating a New Word Document
      • Microsoft Word is the word processor application in Microsoft Office.
      • If Word is already started, clicking the New Blank document on the toolbar creates a new document.
    5. Word Layout Window
      • Title Bar displays the name and type of document. The name Document 1 Temporary until it is given a name.
      • The menu bar – contains the names of drop-down menus that contain commands.
      • The toolbar – contains buttons that represent different actions.
      • The rulers – are used for measuring and also contains markers used for formatting text.
      • The status bar – displays information about the document

      • The New Document task pane – allows documents to be created and opened.
    6. Using the Keyboard with Word 4.3
      • Home key or end key moves the insertion point to the beginning or end of the line of text.
      • The delete key is used to erase the character directly to the right of the insertion point.
      • The Esc or Escape key is used to cancel the current operation.
      • The Insert key is used to turn on the Overtype mode which is located on the right-hand side of your keyboard.
