Indian Civilization can be traced back to 3000 BCE however, it’s most successful kingdom did not appear until around 200 BCE <ul><li>Asoka was the leader of the Mauryan Empire and is considered the greatest Indian leader. </li></ul><ul><li>Under his rule: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Trade expanded </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>India became a center of trade between Asia and Mediterranean civilizations </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Buddhist ideals were used to rule </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>He set up hospitals for humans and animals </li></ul></ul></ul>

After the decline of the Mauryan Empire, kingdoms sprouted up along the northern border of India… <ul><li>The Kushan Kingdom was founded in the first century AD and lasted until around 200 C.E. </li></ul><ul><li>During the Kushan rule </li></ul><ul><ul><li>India became the center of trade between the Roman Empire and China </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>The Silk Road – the trade route between China and Rome, through India </li></ul></ul></ul>

The Guptas <ul><li>In 320 C.E. the Gupta Empire was created </li></ul><ul><li>The Guptas controlled all of northern India and loosely controlled central India </li></ul><ul><li>Traded continued to expand under the Guptas and many cities were built along the trade routes </li></ul><ul><li>The Guptas were eventually conquered by invaders. They were the last strong Indian Empire for hundreds of years </li></ul>
