I am the true vine, and my Father is thevinedresser. Every branch in me that does notbear fruit he takes away, and every branchthat does bear fruit he prunes, that it maybear more fruit. Already you are cleanbecause of the word that I have spoken toyou. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branchcannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides inthe vine, neither can you, unless you abide inme. I am the vine; you are the branches.

Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it isthat bears much fruit, for apart from me youcan do nothing. If anyone does not abide inme he is thrown away like a branch andwithers; and the branches are gathered,thrown into the fire, and burned. And we have seen and testify that the Fatherhas sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son ofGod, God abides in him, and he in God. So wehave come to know and to believe the lovethat God has for us. God is love, and whoeverabides in love abides in God, and God abidesin him. 1 John 4:14-16 (ESV)
