Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalenecame to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and sawthat the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Soshe ran and went to Simon Peter and the otherdisciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them,“They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we donot know where they have laid him.” So Peter wentout with the other disciple, and they were goingtoward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached thetomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linencloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then SimonPeter came, following him, and went into the tomb. Hesaw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus head, not lying with thelinen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.
Then the other disciple, who had reached the tombfirst, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yetthey did not understand the Scripture, that he mustrise from the dead. Then the disciples went back totheir homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as shewept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she sawtwo angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesushad lain, one at the head and one at the feet. Theysaid to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She saidto them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do notknow where they have laid him.” Having said this, sheturned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did notknow that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, whyare you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposinghim to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if youhave carried him away, tell me where you have laidhim, and I will take him away.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned andsaid to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (whichmeans Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Donot cling to me, for I have not yetascended to the Father; but go to mybrothers and say to them, ‘I am ascendingto my Father and your Father, to my Godand your God.’” Mary Magdalene wentand announced to the disciples, “I haveseen the Lord”—and that he had saidthese things to her. Afterward he appeared to the eleventhemselves as they were reclining attable, and he rebuked them for theirunbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed thosewho saw him after he had risen. Andhe said to them, “Go into all the worldand proclaim the gospel to the wholecreation.
Whoever believes and is baptized willbe saved, but whoever does notbelieve will be condemned. And thesesigns will accompany those whobelieve: in my name they will cast outdemons; they will speak in newtongues; they will pick up serpentswith their hands; and if they drink anydeadly poison, it will not hurt them;they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Mary Magdalene:• She was mourning His death, and in her grief she didn’t recognize Jesus!• When she heard Him call her by her own name, she RECOGNIZED JESUS!• After she recognized Jesus, He gave her an assignment – GO TELL OTHERS!
Two disciples on the road:• They RECOGNIZED JESUS when they REMEMBERED Him (communion).• They remarked that their hearts had “burned within them” as Jesus opened His Word to them.• This was more than “Bible study”
Recognizing JesusWWJD becomes “What is Jesus doing & how canI be a part of it?”
Jesus appears to the eleven:• They RECOGNIZED JESUS when they were “assembled together” (community).• Jesus came to them and brought His PEACE & PROOF.• Jesus “opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”• Jesus commissioned them.
