The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reapsparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reapbountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in hisheart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves acheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toyou, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times,you may abound in every good work. As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food willsupply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase theharvest of your righteousness. 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 (ESV)

"For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called hisservants and entrusted to them his property. To one hegave five talents, to another two, to another one, to eachaccording to his ability. Then he went away. He who hadreceived the five talents went at once and traded withthem, and he made five talents more. So also he who hadthe two talents made two talents more. But he who hadreceived the one talent went and dug in the ground and hidhis master’s money. Now after a long time the master ofthose servants came and settled accounts with them. Andhe who had received the five talents came forward,bringing five talents more, saying, Master, you delivered tome five talents; here I have made five talents more.

His master said to him, Well done, good and faithfulservant. You have been faithful over a little; I will setyou over much. Enter into the joy of your master.‘ Andhe also who had the two talents came forward, saying,Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I havemade two talents more.‘ His master said to him, Welldone, good and faithful servant. You have been faithfulover a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joyof your master.‘ He also who had received the onetalent came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to bea hard man, reaping where you did not sow, andgathering where you scattered no seed,

so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in theground. Here you have what is yours.‘ But his masteranswered him, You wicked and slothful servant! You knewthat I reap where I have not sown and gather where Iscattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested mymoney with the bankers, and at my coming I should havereceived what was my own with interest. So take the talentfrom him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For toeveryone who has will more be given, and he will have anabundance. But from the one who has not, even what hehas will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant intothe outer darkness. And do not fear those who kill the body butcannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who candestroy both soul and body in hell. Are nottwo sparrows sold for a penny? And not oneof them will fall to the ground apart from yourFather. But even the hairs of your head are allnumbered. Fear not, therefore; you are ofmore value than many sparrows.
