List of all media technologies used
• Canon 650D DSLR
Camera
• Adobe Premiere Pro
CS6
• Adobe Sound Booth CS6
• Adobe PhotoShop CS6
• Adobe InDesign CS6
• SlideShare
• Kite Learning Platform
• Prezi
• YouTube
• Vimeo
• Audio Network LGFL
• Stockvault.net (royalty
free images)
• Flip HD Camcorder
• Sony Handycam PJ200
• Prosound Microphone
Canon 650D DSLR Camera
• I used this as the camera in the construction of my short-film. We filmed in
1080p at 24 frames per second for the entirety of the film. I took 4 fully charged
batteries with me every time we went out filming to make sure that we could
always film. This was essential for when we were in London as we spent a while
waiting for clear moments to film as it was so busy and the camera was on for a
long time.
• We used the camera with a number of different techniques. With this camera
we had the advantage of manual focus, which we used multiple times in the
film to create some interesting shots. We used focus pulls to draw the attention
of the audience to different objects/people. For example, at the end of the film
we use focus pulls as Jay wakes up.
• Without the Canon 650D we would not have been able to film some of the
scenes we drafted because they involved focus pulls, and a camera with
automatic focus is often slower than focusing by hand.
This is myself using
the Canon 650D to
film a panning shot
used in the exam
sequence.
This is Liam using the
Canon 650D on a tripod
to film Jay leaving the
house, we had to film
this 5 different times for
5 different sequences.
This is the Canon 650D
being used to film part
of the getting ready
sequence at the
beginning of the film on
a tripod.
This is showing the
Canon 650D filming a
point-of-view shot of
Jay using his phone.
Sony Handycam PJ200
• We used the Sony Handycam in most of the
stages of our production because it is easier to
use than the Canon 650D in terms of size, and
that the camera is at school so I did not have
to bring in my camera.
• We used the camera to film our initial pitch.
This camera was also used to film all of our
vlogs in the research, planning and evaluation
stages.
This is a screenshot of our pitch that
was filmed using the Sony Handycam.
This is a screenshot of a vlog that we
made with footage from the Sony
Handycam.
The Sony Handycam has allowed us to create quick videos that demonstrate our media
knowledge and planning for our production.
Prosound Microphone
• I have used this microphone for mainly the
construction, research and evaluation stages.
• We used it to record our actor saying “Ordinary –
That’s my life” and also the part where our main
character answers the phone and says “Hello”. We used
this microphone as an insurance if dialogue recorded
on the Canon 650D not good.
• An example of this is when the main character answers
the phone for the first time. As we were in London the
camera picked up some unwanted noises (cars, people,
etc.) and so we recorded Alex saying “Hello” at a later
date.
Below are two photos of the microphone being used for the voiceovers in our short-film.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
• The editing software for the construction of our
short-film was Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. We also
used this in the construction and editing of vlogs
and other videos in the planning and evaluation
stages too.
• I exploited the option of multiple sequences and
video/audio tracks, and used this frequently
throughout the construction of the short-film and
vlogs in the research and evaluation stages.
This is a print screen of me
creating a sequence of the short-
film using Premiere Pro CS6. This
scene is when the main character
walks off and on screen on the
field.
This is a print screen of the way that I organised our files
within Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on the video editing
machine (VEM). The way I structured putting video files
on to the VEM was to copy the raw files on to the VEM
first. I then imported the files to Premiere Pro and
named them with information about the file. The next
step was to put the files in to the correct ‘bin’, shown on
the left, so that it was quick and easy to locate video files
and audio when constructing the short-film.
Adobe Sound Booth CS6
• We used Adobe Sound Booth maanly in the
construction of the short-film. We were able
to manipulate sound files to the way that we
wanted it t sound. For example, we were able
to change the soundtrack so that it was in
time with the video in certain bits using this
program.
Using Adobe Sound Booth, we were able to edit
the audio files that we recorded using the
Prosound microphone. It was much easier to edit
the audio in this program than within Premiere
Pro. These images show how we increased an
audio file’s volume so that you could hear the
voice better.
Adobe Photoshop CS6
• I used Adobe Photoshop to create: my short-
film poster, the logo for the short-film, the
credits in the short-film and the main image
on my film magazine review page.
• I also used it in the research and planning
section to create a mood-board and some
aspects of the style guides.
Above is a screenshot of the photo shop
document that I used to create my poster
ancillary task.
Above is the main image used on my film
magazine review page that was edited using
Photoshop.
On the left is a screenshot of part of my
style guide that was created on
Photoshop.
Adobe InDesign CS6
• I used the desktop publishing software, Adobe
InDesign to create my film magazine review page
for our short-film.
• This program enabled me to use various fonts in
combination with images I created in Photoshop.
• It is a very efficient program when using lots of
text like on my film magazine review page and
thus saved me a lot of time and allowed me o
create the best product possible.
Below is a screenshot of the Adobe InDesign document that I used to create my final film
magazine review page. It allowed me to easily drag and drop layers that I had created in Photo
shop as well as create text boxes and columns. Other features were hyphenation of the text and
the ability to change the font across multiple layers in a few steps.
SlideShare, Prezi & Vimeo
• I used SlideShare and Prezi to display research,
planning and evaluation content. They are both
free online websites that allow you to crate or
upload presentations and then embed them on
various websites, for instance on my blog to
display the different stages of my A2 production.
• I used Vimeo in the research section because it
has a variety of example short-films. I found some
of the short-films that I analysed on Vimeo. It is a
well known website for people to upload videos,
especially indie film makers.
This is a screenshot of a Slideshare
presentation that is embedded on my blog.
This is a screenshot of Vimeo,
which I used when researching
short-films and their codes and
conventions.
YouTube
• YouTube was used throughout the whole
project. I searched YouTube for existing
products to analyse and find inspiration for
our short-film. We also used it to upload our
research, planning and evaluation vlogs to
display on our blogs.
On the left is a screenshot of a vlog that we
made using Premiere Pro and then uploaded
on to YouTube for display on my blog.
On the left is a screenshot of the final
version of our short-film that we uploaded
on to YouTube, so that we could embed on
our blogs.
Audio Network LGFL
• This was the main website that we used to find sound
files for our short-film. It is a website that has a
collection of 50,000 individual audio files that are free
to download as long as it is within an educational
context.
• The soundtracks that we used throughout the short-
film were from this website along with other sounds.
• It allowed us to find sounds such as the diegetic sound
in the foggy field sequence and the soundtrack during
the getting ready sequence at the beginning of the
film.
Kite Learning
• This website allowed me to create a blog where I
could record all the work I have done towards my
A2 production. It has been vital to all stages
throughout the project.
• It has allowed me to embed presentations from
different websites and programs and to
effectively present my final pieces of work.
• This very presentation will be shown via Kite
Learning, so it has been a very important part of
my Advanced Portfolio in Media.
Conclusion
• Throughout all the stages of my Advanced Production
in Media I have used a variety of media technologies in
different ways.
• Presentation software enabled me to present
information on research, planning, development and
evaluation of my product through embedding on my
blog.
• The Adobe programs were used mainly in the
construction of the short-film and my ancillary tasks.
• In addition, I frequently searched the internet for
tutorials on Premiere Pro and Photoshop which have
helped my final productions greatly.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? By Connor O'Reilly

  • 4. This is myself using the Canon 650D to film a panning shot used in the exam sequence. This is Liam using the Canon 650D on a tripod to film Jay leaving the house, we had to film this 5 different times for 5 different sequences. This is the Canon 650D being used to film part of the getting ready sequence at the beginning of the film on a tripod. This is showing the Canon 650D filming a point-of-view shot of Jay using his phone.
  • 5. Sony Handycam PJ200 • We used the Sony Handycam in most of the stages of our production because it is easier to use than the Canon 650D in terms of size, and that the camera is at school so I did not have to bring in my camera. • We used the camera to film our initial pitch. This camera was also used to film all of our vlogs in the research, planning and evaluation stages.
  • 6. This is a screenshot of our pitch that was filmed using the Sony Handycam. This is a screenshot of a vlog that we made with footage from the Sony Handycam. The Sony Handycam has allowed us to create quick videos that demonstrate our media knowledge and planning for our production.
  • 7. Prosound Microphone • I have used this microphone for mainly the construction, research and evaluation stages. • We used it to record our actor saying “Ordinary – That’s my life” and also the part where our main character answers the phone and says “Hello”. We used this microphone as an insurance if dialogue recorded on the Canon 650D not good. • An example of this is when the main character answers the phone for the first time. As we were in London the camera picked up some unwanted noises (cars, people, etc.) and so we recorded Alex saying “Hello” at a later date.
  • 8. Below are two photos of the microphone being used for the voiceovers in our short-film.
  • 9. Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 • The editing software for the construction of our short-film was Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. We also used this in the construction and editing of vlogs and other videos in the planning and evaluation stages too. • I exploited the option of multiple sequences and video/audio tracks, and used this frequently throughout the construction of the short-film and vlogs in the research and evaluation stages.
  • 10. This is a print screen of me creating a sequence of the short- film using Premiere Pro CS6. This scene is when the main character walks off and on screen on the field. This is a print screen of the way that I organised our files within Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on the video editing machine (VEM). The way I structured putting video files on to the VEM was to copy the raw files on to the VEM first. I then imported the files to Premiere Pro and named them with information about the file. The next step was to put the files in to the correct ‘bin’, shown on the left, so that it was quick and easy to locate video files and audio when constructing the short-film.
  • 11. Adobe Sound Booth CS6 • We used Adobe Sound Booth maanly in the construction of the short-film. We were able to manipulate sound files to the way that we wanted it t sound. For example, we were able to change the soundtrack so that it was in time with the video in certain bits using this program.
  • 12. Using Adobe Sound Booth, we were able to edit the audio files that we recorded using the Prosound microphone. It was much easier to edit the audio in this program than within Premiere Pro. These images show how we increased an audio file’s volume so that you could hear the voice better.
  • 13. Adobe Photoshop CS6 • I used Adobe Photoshop to create: my short- film poster, the logo for the short-film, the credits in the short-film and the main image on my film magazine review page. • I also used it in the research and planning section to create a mood-board and some aspects of the style guides.
  • 14. Above is a screenshot of the photo shop document that I used to create my poster ancillary task. Above is the main image used on my film magazine review page that was edited using Photoshop. On the left is a screenshot of part of my style guide that was created on Photoshop.
  • 15. Adobe InDesign CS6 • I used the desktop publishing software, Adobe InDesign to create my film magazine review page for our short-film. • This program enabled me to use various fonts in combination with images I created in Photoshop. • It is a very efficient program when using lots of text like on my film magazine review page and thus saved me a lot of time and allowed me o create the best product possible.
  • 16. Below is a screenshot of the Adobe InDesign document that I used to create my final film magazine review page. It allowed me to easily drag and drop layers that I had created in Photo shop as well as create text boxes and columns. Other features were hyphenation of the text and the ability to change the font across multiple layers in a few steps.
  • 17. SlideShare, Prezi & Vimeo • I used SlideShare and Prezi to display research, planning and evaluation content. They are both free online websites that allow you to crate or upload presentations and then embed them on various websites, for instance on my blog to display the different stages of my A2 production. • I used Vimeo in the research section because it has a variety of example short-films. I found some of the short-films that I analysed on Vimeo. It is a well known website for people to upload videos, especially indie film makers.
  • 18. This is a screenshot of a Slideshare presentation that is embedded on my blog. This is a screenshot of Vimeo, which I used when researching short-films and their codes and conventions.
  • 19. YouTube • YouTube was used throughout the whole project. I searched YouTube for existing products to analyse and find inspiration for our short-film. We also used it to upload our research, planning and evaluation vlogs to display on our blogs.
  • 20. On the left is a screenshot of a vlog that we made using Premiere Pro and then uploaded on to YouTube for display on my blog. On the left is a screenshot of the final version of our short-film that we uploaded on to YouTube, so that we could embed on our blogs.
  • 21. Audio Network LGFL • This was the main website that we used to find sound files for our short-film. It is a website that has a collection of 50,000 individual audio files that are free to download as long as it is within an educational context. • The soundtracks that we used throughout the short- film were from this website along with other sounds. • It allowed us to find sounds such as the diegetic sound in the foggy field sequence and the soundtrack during the getting ready sequence at the beginning of the film.
  • 22. Kite Learning • This website allowed me to create a blog where I could record all the work I have done towards my A2 production. It has been vital to all stages throughout the project. • It has allowed me to embed presentations from different websites and programs and to effectively present my final pieces of work. • This very presentation will be shown via Kite Learning, so it has been a very important part of my Advanced Portfolio in Media.
  • 23. Conclusion • Throughout all the stages of my Advanced Production in Media I have used a variety of media technologies in different ways. • Presentation software enabled me to present information on research, planning, development and evaluation of my product through embedding on my blog. • The Adobe programs were used mainly in the construction of the short-film and my ancillary tasks. • In addition, I frequently searched the internet for tutorials on Premiere Pro and Photoshop which have helped my final productions greatly.
