  • Hello and welcome to the Central Florida Partnership on Health Disparities. I am Jarred McCovery, CFPHD Marketing & Communications Consultant, and today I am going to provide you with general information about the organization.
  • [about]
  • [history]
  • [CFPHD structure p1]
  • [cv]Ms. Linda H. Sutherland is the Executive Director of the Orange County Healthy Start Coalition, Inc., a nonprofit coalition established by legislation in 1992 to provide social services to decrease women's risk for poor birth outcomes and decrease Florida's high infant mortality rate. Ms. Sutherland's expertise includes early childhood and prenatal care, research, and maternal education. Sutherland earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Buxton University in 2001. Her affiliations and awards include: Former Board Member, Orange County Public Schools; Early Learning Advisory Board Member, University of Central Florida; The National Children's Advocacy Center; 100 Women Strong; JeppesenVisionQuest, Inc.; Central Florida Partnership on Health Disparities; Board Member, United Way Worldwide. With 21 years in the profession, Ms. Sutherland’s leadership at the Orange County Healthy Start Coalition includes facilitating efforts to offer early childhood education on healthy birth to at-risk families and community groups, paying for underfunded prenatal care, facilitating mother-infant bonding, and conducting research in early literacy and the prevention of low birth weight and infant mortality.

  • [cv]Dr. Lauren Josephs is the Vice President and COO of the Visionary Vanguard Group and former Program Manager of Health Disparities Research & Education at the Center for Health Futures at Florida Hospital. Her core areas include research, evaluation, quality assurance processes, and cultural competence. She is a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in working with women and adolescents. Noting the lack of gender‐responsive services, Dr. Josephs co‐developed and implemented ‘Full of Myself’ a program which meets the unique needs of girls. In 2008, she received the Golden Choices Award from the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English as well as Masters and Specialist Degrees in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida. She also received a PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Josephs has a track record of advocacy and community outreach. She currently serves on the boards of the Orange County Healthy Start Coalition, Community Health Centers and CFPHD and is a volunteer for a number of organizations.
  • [cv]Elaine Cauthen is the Assistant Director of the Health Council of East Central Florida, Inc.  Ms. Cauthen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Adelphi University, New York and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.  She received her Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification in 1996.  She began her career in public health as a Disease Intervention Specialist with the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia.  Upon relocating to Florida, she has held positions with Florida Department of Health, County Health Departments and Florida Hospital.  Elaine also worked with Orange County’s highly successful Primary Care Access Network (PCAN) on cultural competency issues.  She researched and developed a medical language bank that offers health professionals cultural competency training (including community interpreter training) and a multi-step high quality process to guide the translation of patient/client forms and health education materials into Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and Vietnamese.
