  • 2. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • 3. The Film - A One Man War
  • 4. Using the forms and conventions of real media products? Our group has used the convention of real media products by adding some elements of comedy in our drama film. This is done in many Hollywood films such as Tropic thunder. Our film is a 'War' genre blended in with drama. This uses the forms and convention of real media products as war based films are normally packed full of drama. For example the hurt locker. Music is frequently used to have an impact on the storyline as well as the audiences. This is a common convention which is found in drama films. I used the convention of a drama film by having a twist at the end.
  • 5. Using the forms and conventions of real media products?
    • We have used the typical good vs. evil and protagonist vs. antagonist storyline in our film. This shows that I have used forms and conventions of real media products.
    • Our group used the convention of real media products by including the title, name of the Film Company, and credits. This feature is normally found in a film.
    • We used the convention of real media products by using slow motion during the clip were the paper ball hits the teacher head. This was done for dramatic effect as the film has reached it climatic point.
  • 6. Developing the forms and conventions of real media products? We developed the convention of a drama film by using real life event to create a fictional story. Most drama film don’t use elements of comedy the way we did. This showed that we developed the convention of real media products. We developed the convention of a drama film by using different types of flashbacks. We used audio and visual flashback to reinforce the idea that he is an Ex-soldier.
  • 7. Developing the forms and conventions of real media products?
    • We developed the convention of this genre by creating a montage to show key events which has taken place at different time.
    • We used match cut in our montage to develop the convention of real media products.
    • Our film is War/drama film which contains suspense in the storyline. This convention is regularly used in a drama film.
  • 8. Challenging the forms and conventions of real media products?
    • Our film has challenged the convention of a typical war/drama film.
    • Our main character is a macho guy who is scared of kids.
    • A military man has fought in a war but has been defeated by teenagers.
    • The protagonist loses the fight and the students win.
  • 9. Challenging the forms and conventions of real media products?
    • Our film is an open narrative film. This is because it does not satisfy the audience and film leaves them guessing. This challenges the convention.
    • We challenged the convention of a drama film by using two separate film clips and merging them together. This made our film more dramatic and interesting as it gives the audiences an insight of our main character's state of mind.
  • 10. Challenging convention using Costumes and props
    • Most of the students in the classroom scene were wearing a scarf. Muslim girls are usually seen quiet and submissive people in films. However we challenged this convention by making them more powerful than the former solider.
    • Soldiers are seen as brave and courageous in films. However we challenged this convention by adding a teddy with him while he sleeps.
