Image . . . Your boss decides that because you have been proving yourself he gives you added responsibility. You are so excited that he has noticed your potential. You immediately get on the phone to tell your best friend about the new challenge that you have been given, and that you know that you will be able to deliver on his request and that you can do it!
You complete the activity and are excited by the amount of effort that you have put into the task, and hand it to your boss. Your boss calls you in to tell you that the work that you have completed needs changing and updating . . . You are heartbroken and decide that your boss does not like you, and that he did not even say “thank you”.

Keep a journal – for 10 minutes each morning write whatever
you want, just write whatever comes to mind, do not try and
organise or structure your writing
Use a programmed relaxation response
Write a positive script
Preplan how you will respond to stressful situations
Reframe emotions
Make a mental note of the situation as you would like it to
unfold

Walk in their shoes. Write a paragraph about an individual that
you are having difficulty with. Ask yourself what you know
about this person and their situation.
Focus on process comments. The “why” and “how” of the
behaviour.
Use a problem solving method to deal with conflict. If you
avoid the conflict it will not go away.
