Plumbing Continuing Education Requirements
Plumbers
All Washington Journeyman or Residential plumbers must complete 16 hours of
continuing education prior to license renewal (every 2 years). Continuing education hours
must include:
• 8 hours Plumbing Code (Category 1)
• 4 hours Industry Related Electrical (Category 2)
• 4 additional hours Plumbing Code, Industry Related Electrical or Industry Related
Plumbing (Category 3)
Plumber Trainees
All Washington plumber trainees must complete 8 hours of continuing education prior
to annual license renewal. Each year continuing education hours must include (required
categories will alternate from one year to the next):
• 8 hours Plumbing Code (Category 1)
or
• 4 hours Industry-Related Electrical (Category 2)
• 4 additional hours Plumbing Code, Industry Related Electrical or Industry Related
Plumbing (Category 3)
2009 UPC Adopted by Washington State
On July 1, 2010, Washington State adopted the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) as the
code regulating all plumbing installations in the State.
Continuing Education
• All plumbing continuing education courses, both online and classroom, offered
after July 1, 2010 will be based on the 2009 UPC.
State Licensing Exam and Exam Preparation Course
• The Washington State Journeyman and Residential Plumber Licensing Exams will
be based on the UPC 2009 starting January 6, 2011.
• CCEC’s Plumbing Journeyman Refresher Course will cover the 2009 UPC only
starting January 2011.

education division of the Contrstuction Industry Traininng Council of
Washington (CITC of WA). CITC of WA was established in 1983 to
recruit, train, develop and retain skilled labor for the Washington State
construction indistry.

heating, heat sources, basic design considerations, piping strategy basics and heat emitters. PM:
Course provides a basic understanding of wiring and controls for hydronics, electrical safety devices,

AM: Course provides a two-year first aid card and two-year rescuer-CPR card. Eligible participants are
also given a certificate of completion for 4 industry-related plumbing (IRP) continuing education units.
PM: Course covers NFPA 70E safety guidelines for working with electrical hazards, including grounding
and bonding; lockout/tagout; hazardous work areas; arc flash/arc blast protection; and personal
protection equipment. Supplemental handouts included in cost of course.

EXAM Plumbing Journeyman Refresher Course $499
PREP! Category 1 (12 hours Plumbing Code)

Prepares plumber apprentices/trainees for the WA Journeyman and Residential Plumber Certification
Exam. Provides extensive review of WA plumbing laws and regulations and all chapters of the 2009 UPC.
Course also includes interactive review of plumbing definitions, DWV sizing, water system sizing, traps
and injectors, joints and connections, indirect wastes, plumbing fixtures and special wastes. Course may
be taken by licensed plumbers. All 30 hours must be attended to obtain continuing education credit.

7. Registration Information
REGISTRATIONS: Complete and return this registration form to CCEC no later than one week before
class. Include bankcard information or a check; registrations will not be accepted without payment.
Registrations for all classes can also be completed at www.ccec.us. Registrations are processed on a
first come, first serve basis. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements may be
cancelled.
REFUNDS: Refunds (less $25 administration fee) gladly made if cancellation is 7 days before the class
starts; no refunds made after that date. This policy is strictly enforced.
TRANSFERS: Transfers may be arranged at no cost prior to the class date - but no later than one
week after the class date. Transfers made more than one week after the class date are subject to a $25
administrative fee. Transfers are valid for one year from date of original class.
CONFIRMATIONS: Upon receipt of registration and payment, confirmation information will be sent via
email (or mail, if no email address is provided). Confirmation will include course location information,
driving directions, and receipt.
CONTINUING EDUCATION REPORTING: The licensee is responsible for providing accurate license
numbers to CCEC. CCEC reports continuing education credit to the Washington Department of Labor
and Industries only, unless otherwise notified. Keep the original certificate as proof of attendance when
submitting hours to other states. Please allow one week after requesting a replacement certificate.
