Alexandra Day Visits the Corvallis-Benton County Library October 13-15, 2009

Today I met Carl and Alexandra Day

Alexandra Day is the pen name for Sandra Darling. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Harold and their two dogs.

Carl’s real name is Zubiyaga. He likes to be called Zubi.

Zubi weighs 104 pounds Zubi is 7 ½ years old. Zubi likes to play ball and eat. Zubi is smart.

Other Zubi facts…. Zubi drinks about a quart of water an hour when doing school and library visits. Zubi is a therapy dog and has been prescribed by doctors to work with specific cases.

Stop 1: Grass Roots Books Grass Roots Books had an early release party for “ Carl’s Snowy Afternoon” Alexandra only signs books with her fountain pen. No Sharpies!

Stop 2: Philomath Community Library Story Time Carl likes to eat cake. Carl likes to find a quiet place to sit or a foot to sit upon. Carl will do anything for a treat.

Carl likes to jump over kids.

No math problem is too hard, especially for a cookie. Carl does addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and square root problems.

Stop 3: Clemens Primary School Clemens students practiced drawing pictures of Carl. Alexandra Day took the pictures home so Carl could sign them before returning them to the students.

Stop 4: Mari’s Place Community Outreach Carl met a guinea pig for the first time in his life.

Each site Alexandra Day and Carl visited received a signed copy of Carl’s Snowy Afternoon .

Mari’s Place made giant cookies for Carl.

Stop 5: Old Mill Center & School Checking out the student art and receiving a book written by the children.

Stop 11: Monroe Community Library Good dog Carl is getting tired but there is always time for one more game of ball.
