Either the band play a part in the narrative
(Flyleaf & New Found Glory) or the band sings OF
the narrated story being told (BLG & Paramore).
This coincides with Andrew Goodwin’s codes and
conventions for a music video (to involve the
band/artist within the video & to use a narrative
style/story within the video).
 Meiert Avis also uses the Male Gaze. (e.g Chris
Cornell – Scream)

 The reason why I enjoy this video, is due to the animation/stop-
motion and special effects used within it.The video is shot within a
studio, with a black background, focusing the audience’s attention
upon the band.The special effects of fire work particularly well,
insinuating to the audience of an emotional/’fiery’ song or tone to
the lyrics.
