1. Proof the concept and build confidence

• Small pilot trucks project in Guangzhou 2008-2009
   – Requested by local government for environmental concerns
   – Tire and aerodynamics technologies tested on 14 trucks in three
     truck fleets
   – Input from international best practice and experts
   – Results: 3.5~17% fuel and emission savings

                                                                   17

Project
• Technology Demonstration
   – Large scale testing and M&E on 1200 trucks
   – Pilot testing of logistics operation technologies:
       • ICT supported Brokerage Information System
       • “Drop-and-Hook” freight operations
• Capacity Building
   – Policy research
   – Training
       • installation and operation of technologies
       • government officials and enterprise managers
   – Marketing and branding
   – Knowledge dissemination

3. Design national framework for green freight

• Green Freight China Program was initiated by CAI-Asia with
support from an Energy Foundation grant
• Aim: establish a national program to improve fuel efficiency,
reduce fuel costs and greenhouse gases and air pollution
– Builds on 12th FYP and existing efforts in China
– Fill gaps: policy, institutional, stakeholder cooperation
– Can be used as a model for other developing countries in Asia
