John 13.1 17 (march 17,2013) A HEART OF SERVICE John 13.1 17 (march 17,2013) A HEART OF SERVICE Presentation Transcript

  • John 13:1-17 1 It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. 2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the
  • 4 so he got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciple’s feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to Him, ‚Lord, are you going to wash my feet?‛
  • 9 ‚Then, Lord.‛ Simon Peter replied, ‚not just my feet but my hands and heads as well!‛ 10 Jesus answered, ‚Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.‛ 11 For He knew who was going to betray Him, and that was why He
  • 13 ‚You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master and no messenger greater than the

  • I. Humility 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciple’s feet, drying them with the
  • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45 5 In your relationship with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who being in very nature with God did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage 7 rather, He made Himself nothing by taking a very nature of a servant being made in human likeness 8 And being found in appearance as a
  • Humility is the most vital sign of healthy spiritual Heart and Mind. It is an attitude that deeply affects every relationship that Humility is not something that comes naturally.
  • Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up. James 4:10 Success without SUCCESSOR is not a success!
  • Pride Satan uses PRIDE to divide us by tempting us to brag about our strengths. He uses PRIDE to blind us to our weaknesses, so that won’t seek relationship with other. SATAN WANT US TO THINK THAT WE CAN LIVE TO THE FULLEST BY OURSELVES
  • For all those exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humbled themselves will be exalted. Luke 14:11 Sitting down, Jesus called the twelve and said, ‚Anyone who wants to be the first must be the very last and the servant for all. Mark 9:35
  • II. Love 12 When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. ‚Do you understand what I have done for you?‛ he asked them. 13 ‚You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you
  • The king will reply, ‚Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40 He will reply, ‚Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me. Matthew 25:45
  • Why we serve?
  • We don’t perform works of service to BECOME members of God’s family. We perform works of service BECAUSE we are members of God’s family. −Dave Greber, The Lost Commandment The church works best when we see ourselves as participants, not as spectator. −Our Daily Bread
  • For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advanced for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correctin g and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be build up. Ephesians 4:11-12
  • You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13
  • To Whom we serve?
  • Family (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can be take care of God’s church?) 1 Timothy 3:5
  • Urgent needDo not say to your neighbor, ‚Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you‛ When you already have it with you.
  • III. Glorify God 15 I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master and no messenger greater than the one who sent Him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:15-17
  • Am I now trying to win the approval of human being or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Serve wholeheartedly as if you were serving the Lord not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. This service that you perform is not only supplying needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 2 Corinthians 9:12

  • NO service for Christ is insignificant. −Our Daily Bread Being imperfect doesn’t disqualify us from serving God; it just emphasizes our dependence on His Mercy.
