Prevention
Get your yearly flu vaccination
Wash your hands after riding the T, shaking hands with someone, working out, using the restroom, etc.
Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with your fingers. Germs spread this way…
Cover your coughs & sneezes with a tissue or your elbow – NOT your hands.
Drink plenty of water-based fluids each day (water, herbal tea, 100% fruit juice, etc.)
Get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Keep antioxidants and endorphins flowing! Eat a healthy diet and practice an active lifestyle.
Treatment
Be aware of all symptoms ( See Next Slide )
Stay at home from class or any other meetings until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours.
Use a “ Flu Buddy ” to bring you homework, food, class notes, etc.

If You Choose to Drink, Try These Safety Tips
Space and Pace
- Limit yourself to one drink per hour (that’s all your body can metabolize!).
- Alternate each alcoholic beverage with a full glass of water.
Measure and Count
- Set a limit before you start and stick to it!
Count your drinks. Be creative - you can use the tab of a beer can, bottle cap or straw.
Pour your own drinks and know what a standard drink is.
Be Smart!
- Stay SAFE! Go home with the same group that you left with and keep an eye on each other throughout the night!
- Eat a full meal before drinking to slow down the absorption rate.
Don’t accept opened drink containers from anyone you do not know.
Be your own person - don't get caught up in peer pressure.
- Be aware of any possible interactions with your medications.

Take Care of Your Body

According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans , you need to do two types of physical activity each week to improve your health – aerobic and muscle strengthening.

Managing Depression
If you feel depressed, make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as you can . Depression symptoms may not get better on their own — and depression may get worse if it isn't treated. Study Tips
Utilize dorm/university study rooms, libraries, lounges, etc. Your dorm room may be filled with too many distractions.
Prioritize subjects by due dates, levels of importance, and difficulty.
Try instrumental music when studying.
Avoid studying in your bed or a place that is too comfortable – you may end up sleeping instead of studying!
Take brief breaks (5-10 minutes) every half hour.
Try identifying when you are most productive and do the
work requiring the most concentration at that time.
Study actively: ask yourself questions, review your notes regularly, discuss key concepts with peers and course professors. Midterms, projects, and exams may seem far off, but will sneak up on you quickly!

our actions. It deals with having a sense of purpose, direction, and awareness.

thought and discussion. The first step in developing values and
spiritual wellness is to examine your current values - for example, respect, honesty, human life, family, education, religion, health, wealth, community service, diversity.

A variety of chaplains are available to all students for spiritual guidance, regardless of religious affiliation .
Each of the University Chaplains comes from a particular religious tradition but is available to members of the community from any tradition. They are ordained in good standing in their traditions and serve the religiously diverse BU community.

Shop local! The BU Farmers’ Market is open every Thursday, outside of the GSU, from August through October.
Recycling doesn’t only apply to trash! Recycle old clothes, textbooks,

Escort Security Services
This safety service escorts students to and from campus locations.
Sunday - Thursday: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Friday and Saturday: 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Exam Periods: 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The Escort Security Service does not operate if weather or other emergency
conditions warrant the closing of the University or the delayed start or
suspension of evening classes. The Escort Security Service does not operate
during Fall Recess, Intersession, Spring Recess, and Summer Sessions.

The Women’s Resource Center
The Women’s Resource Center is a completely student-run center that provides a welcoming space
to the BU student body, which works to increase awareness of women and gender related issues
and inspire student action around such issues.
In addition to other services, the WRC works to create a sense of community around sexual health
and safety as well as eating disorders. This is a non-discriminatory setting for all students, regardless
of gender, who are interested in the advancement and well being of women at BU.
The WRC offers a study space, a place for discussion, a venue for events,
and a place for student groups to hold meetings.
The WRC also has a lending library and informational resources on
women's health, political issues and the
GLBTQ community.
