Laser cutting is a technology that uses a powerful laser to cut or engrave flat sheet materials such as plastic, wood, paper, fabric etc.


It works by directing the output of a high-power laser, by computer, at the material to be cut. The material then either melts, burns or vaporizes away leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish.

  • 2. WHAT IS LASER CUTTING ? Laser cutting is a technology that uses a powerful laser to cut or engrave flat sheet materials such as plastic, wood, paper, fabric etc. It works by directing the output of a high-power laser, by computer, at the material to be cut. The material then either melts, burns or vaporizes away leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish.

  • 5. What are the Types of Laser Cutting? There are three main types of laser cutting. 1. Carbon Dioxide Laser Carbon dioxide cutting lasers are widely used in industrial settings for both cutting and welding, and can operate at continuous power output of over 10 kilowatts. Carbon dioxide lasers are known to be very efficient, operating with an estimated 30 percent efficiency.
  • 6. 2. Neodymium Laser Neodymium lasers are often used primarily for boring. These lasers are typically for small or medium sized cutting, and are also used in a wide range of research applications, most notably in nuclear fusion research. These lasers generate pulses as short as 10 ^ -12 seconds long, but have peak powers of 10 ^ 9 kilowatts.

Neodymium Yttrium-AluminumGarnet Laser The neodymium yttrium-aluminumgarnet laser, also known as the neodymium-YAG laser, is nearly identical to the neodymium laser but typically used for different purposes. The laser can produce high-power beams necessary for cutting. These lasers typically operate in pulse mode, and are often used to both engrave, bore or pierce materials.
