  • 4. Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit inMoses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everythingthey tell you. But do not do what they do, for they donot practice what they preach. They tie up heavy,cumbersome loads and put them on other people’sshoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lifta finger to move them. Matthew 23: 1-4
  • 5. Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, thePharisees got together. One of them, an expert inthe law, tested him with this question: “Teacher,which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all yourheart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And thesecond is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Allthe Law and the Prophets hang on these twocommandments.” Matthew 22: 34-40

  • 8. But now apart from the law the righteousness of Godhas been made known, to which the Law and theProphets testify. This righteousness is given throughfaith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is nodifference between Jew and Gentile, for all havesinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all arejustified freely by his grace through the redemptionthat came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3: 21-24

All have sinned and are justified freely, without theirown works and merits, by His grace, through theredemption that is in Christ Jesus… This cannot beotherwise acquired or grasped by any work, law ormerit.
