  • History is an unbroken line of interconnected content from cave drawings through oral traditions and the spoken word, and finally to the written word. We know where we have come from as collective humanity. Many of us can go back several generations without having to reach for the family album. Let us for a brief moment look at an adopted child; where does her/her history begin? When that adopted child has children, their history will begin with their parents. When we remove grandma or granddad from the home, an important link with the knowledge of the past is lost or at the very least becomes blurred. What is the real cost of losing that connection?

    • A recent study of adults ages 45 and older by AARPsuggest that wanting to remain in one’s home and one’s community as one ages continue to be paramount.For seniors home care means comfort, independence, freedom, security, dignity, peace of mind and more.
    • Today, over 7000 people are turning 65 and within10 years, there will be over 54 million people over the age of 65. That’s almost 16% of the U.S. population. In fact, the number of Americans 65 and older isexpected to more than double to 89 million by 2050, according to the Census Bureau.
    • Clearly personal preferences of seniors coupled withrapidly aging population is driving demand for home care services. With advances in technology, aging population and epidemics of chronic diseases more and more health care is moving towards home care.
    • Older adults tend to have greater than average healthcare needs and are growing faster thanthe total population, increasing the demand for home health services and all types of senior care.
    • Here are some of the key findings from the telephone survey of 1,616 adults’ ages 45 and older that was conducted for AARP by GfK Custom Research North America as part of OMNITEL, their weekly telephone omnibus survey, from July 16-25, 2010.
    • 1 Nearly three-quarters of respondents strongly agreed with the statement, “what I’d really like to do is stay in my current residence for as long as possible,” while slightly more than one-tenth said they somewhat agreed with the statement.
    • 2 Similarly, two-thirds of respondents strongly agreed with the statement, “What I’d really like to do is remain in my local community for as long as possible,” while roughly one-fifth said they somewhat agreed with the statement.
    • These figures are essentially equivalent to those given by respondents when they were asked about staying in their home; the difference is that when compared with staying in their community, more respondents strongly agreed that they wanted to stay in theirhome, suggesting a more intense level of agreement.     • The above research clearly depicts that seniors prefer home care and are willing to pay for it. As a result home healthcare is growing rapidly right along with the senior population.
