  • 1. 2011 Idaho Power Rebates Lighting rebates for energy efficient lighting upgrades By Bright Ideas Lighting Co.
  • 2. 2011 Process changes
    • Everything is run through lighting calculator
    • All applications submitted electronically, no paper fax documents anymore.
    • Sign off by customer needed even to submit pre-application.
  • 3. 2011 Process Changes
    • Pre and post inspections for lighting upgrades.
      • Process takes much longer than 2010
      • ID Power is shooting for 2 week turn around time from date of pre-application
        • This is needed because some contractors found to be inflating fixture counts, delamping fixtures that were never there in the first place, other fraud to inflate rebates
  • 4. 2011 changes
    • Contractors must sign Memorandum of understanding to be in program
      • Maintain proper liability insurance
      • Must have electrical license to do lighting retrofits
      • Must be properly disposing of old fluorescent light bulbs
      • Goal seems to be eliminate the “fly by night installers”
  • 5. T12 to T8 retrofits
    • Two separate categories in 2011
        • Standard incentives
        • “High Performance” incentives
          • Bulbs and ballasts must be on high performance list to quality
    • Does not make economic sense to retrofit with anything besides the high performance lamps and ballasts
  • 6. T12 to T8 retrofits
    • Idaho Power rebates for following retrofits using high performance bulbs and ballasts
    • 4 lamp T12 to 4 lamp T8 = $34
    • 4 lamp T12 to 2 lamp T8 = $44
    • 3 lamp T12 to 3 lamp T8 = $32
    • 3 lamp T12 to 2 lamp T8 = $37
    • 2 lamp T12 to 2 lamp T8 = $24
  • 7. 8 foot light bulb retrofits
    • Only $12 rebate for retrofitting to 8’ T8 bulbs
    • Better to use retrofit kits or purchase new tandem fixtures.
    • Retrofitting to 8’ T8 light bulbs not economically best option in most situations
  • 8. Metal halide to fluorescent
    • Change 400 watt metal halide to 6 lamp T8 high bay
        • Rebate is down from $120 in 2010 to $ 110 in 2011
        • Rebates for 6 lamp T8 and 4 lamp T5 HO now the same.
        • Payback period on these projects typically 18 months to 30 months.
  • 9. LED Exit lights
    • Replace incandescent exit light with LED exit light
      • Rebate is up from $10 in 2010 to $25 in 2011
      • Payback on these is usually 2-3 years, plus there is significant maintenance cost savings
  • 10. LED Lights
    • Must be LM79 or LM80 compliant
    • OR
    • Energy Star Qualified
      • Lot of junk LED products on the market, Idaho Power trying to rebate only when quality LED products installed
  • 11. Exterior lighting upgrades
    • Exterior lighting no longer needs to be “attached to the building” per 2010 rules.
