NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
It’s time again for Hollywood to honor the year’s best. The
Oscars® are only weeks away and the nominations are in.
Who will take home the gold?
THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON leads the
way this year with 13 nominations, including a nod in the very
prestigious categories of Best Picture, Editing, Cinematography
and Directing. BUTTON is an epic story with big stars and a
celebrated director, and is expected to take home several
statues this year. Let’s also not forget the unexpected surprise
of 2008, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. After narrowly avoiding
straight-to-DVD release and winning 4 Golden Globes, this independent film will be a
major player at this year’s Oscars®. Although BUTTON and SLUMDOG are considered
frontrunners by many in the Best Picture category, don’t count out the highly acclaimed films
FROST/NIXON, MILK and THE READER, all looking to make a splash on awards night.
In the Best Actor category, Mickey Rourke emerges as an early favorite in his surprising
and excellent performance as a beaten down and aging ring warrior in THE WRESTLER.
However, the comeback kid can expect hefty competition from the other fine actors
nominated in this category, including Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Richard Jenkins and Frank

deliver that? I am a firm believer in the
power and value of the movie screen.”

IRON MAN STRIKES GOLD
AT THE BOX OFFICE
The summer movie season kicked off in familiar fashion this May as
IRON MAN rocketed to the top of the box office. The Marvel Comics
adaptation was pure gold its opening weekend and debuted with $102.1
million including Thursday night previews, making it the biggest opening of
the year and the 10th biggest opening of all time. Among non-sequels,
Iron Man is the second-best opening of all time, behind only the first
SPIDER-MAN, another Marvel character.
The worldwide success of Iron Man marks the beginning of a new franchise
and Hollywood’s Iron Age. After becoming the first movie of the year to cross
the $200 million mark, Marvel Entertainment Inc. is determined to capitalize on
the momentum and has already promised to release IRON MAN 2 in 2010.
In addition, four other films based on Marvel superheroes have also been announced to hit theatres in the
next few years: THOR, THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE AVENGERS, and ANT-MAN.
Marvel also has THE INCREDIBLE HULK coming out June 13, and rumor has it Iron Man himself will be
making a cameo in the movie.
Iron Man has officially launched the summer movie season on a high note, and the businesses that jumped
on board with Screenvision Direct got more than they bargained for. Audi has a significant movie tie-in with a
product placement in Iron Man, and the local Audi dealers that got on screen prior to and during the Iron Man
release are now reaping the benefits as millions of consumers
have been exposed to their ads. To reach your valued consumers,
