  • Not just a recruiting campaign The new brand campaign is designed to ignite a passion within those currently serving in uniform. We who serve are well aware that something very special resides within the spirit of the men and women who dedicate themselves to serving others. Understanding millenials Young people today want to be a part of something much bigger and more-powerful than themselves. Recognize their contributions to the whole, while maintaining their individuality. Sailors (including millenials) helped develop the new brand Recruit slogan history: “ Accelerate Your Life” (2001-2009) “ Let the Journey Begin” (1996-2000) “ Navy. It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure” (1976-86) “ Be Someone Special” (1973-75)
  • What we do as a Navy is articulated in the Maritime Strategy.
  • Global commerce upon these waters: (International Maritime Organization) Carries 90% of global trade, or approximately $10T in 2007 World Trading Fleet (International Maritime Organization / Lloyds Register Fairplay) Over 46k commercial ships (in commission) displacing nearly 598M tons Over 30 nations have navies with global reach (N00Z) 160 nations have some navy, coast guard or maritime police (Janes) U.S. Navy has maintained this Global Order for 60 years United States has benefitted enormously from this
  • U.S. economy is larger than next 4 nations combined (Japan, China, Germany, Great Britain) 4% of world population, 26% of world GDP This has been possible due to U.S. Navy’s freedom of the seas – 60 years Little understood by many of our of our citizens, even political leaders. (2009 numbers) China poised to become 2 nd largest economy in the world NPR – “What would world look like with China as 2 nd largest economy in the world?” Cost to maintain a Carrier Strike Group in Indian Ocean/Persian Gulf – more than the entire defense budget of most nations in the world. DOD Budget – 5% of GDP
  • Stress difficulty in qualifying for enlistment. ..i.e. 73% of youth are not qualified.
