From time to time on the Brand Autopsy blog, I share "money quotes" from business books I've recently read. This “money quotes” presentation takes on a different angle. I’m sharing a condensed story on what tightrope walking can teach us about focus from Vince Poscente’s newest book -- THE AGE OF SPEED (Bard Press).

  2. Slide 2: The coach challenged us to walk from one end of a tightrope to the other as fast as we could without falling.
  3. Slide 3: One after the other, each of us stared across the tightrope, believing we could win. And one after the other, each of us failed.
  4. Slide 4: We’d hold out arms out to our sides, keep our eyes on the rope, and carefully place one foot in front of the other.
  5. Slide 5: We’d concentrate all our energy on going fast and not falling — but then we’d fall. Again. And again.

  7. Slide 7: To go fast, stop focusing on the rope, and START FOCUSING on the destination.
  8. Slide 8: One after another, we climbed to the starting point of the tightrope course and took a deep breath.

  10. Slide 10: We shifted our weight forward and started racing across the rope, never taking our eyes off the target.
