  2. 2. DEFINITION Greek word meaning "reverence for self." Reflects a person's overall sense of value and self-worth Involves a variety of beliefs about the self
  3. 3. INDIVIDUALS WITH A STRONG SELF- ESTEEM Know their own capabilities Have feelings of being valued and worthwhile  Show healthy growth and development
  4. 4. INDIVIDUALS WITH LOW SELF - ESTEEM Feel that others don’t respect / value them Are less capable of responding to others Are unable to control their personal life or to make decisions
  5. 5. FACTORS WHICH AFFECT SELF–ESTEEM Own behaviour How other people behave towards us The way we believe that others see us.
  6. 6. KEY MESSAGES We all have different attributes/qualities. Some we like, and others we do not.
  7. 7. KEY MESSAGES We can either learn to like the parts we do not like or to change them. WE HAVE A CHOICE!
  8. 8. KEY MESSAGES By being aware of our positive qualities we are more sure of ourselves and more able to accomplish things.

  10. 10. KEY MESSAGES Life Skills such as Self-Awareness, Critical-Thinking, Coping with Stress and Emotions can help us improve our Self-Esteem.
