  • DEFINITION Greek word meaning "reverence for self." Reflects a person's overall sense of value and self-worth Involves a variety of beliefs about the self
  • INDIVIDUALS WITH A STRONG SELF- ESTEEM Know their own capabilities Have feelings of being valued and worthwhile  Show healthy growth and development View slide
  • INDIVIDUALS WITH LOW SELF - ESTEEM Feel that others don’t respect / value them Are less capable of responding to others Are unable to control their personal life or to make decisions View slide
  • FACTORS WHICH AFFECT SELF–ESTEEM Own behaviour How other people behave towards us The way we believe that others see us.
  • KEY MESSAGES We all have different attributes/qualities. Some we like, and others we do not.
  • KEY MESSAGES We can either learn to like the parts we do not like or to change them. WE HAVE A CHOICE!
  • KEY MESSAGES By being aware of our positive qualities we are more sure of ourselves and more able to accomplish things.
  • KEY MESSAGES Focus on “Positive Self-Esteem”
  • KEY MESSAGES Life Skills such as Self-Awareness, Critical-Thinking, Coping with Stress and Emotions can help us improve our Self-Esteem.
