  2. N.Korea threatens to 'wipe out' U.S. in event of new war 25/06/2009 SEOUL , June 25 (RIA Novosti) - North Korea has accused the U.S. and South Korea of provoking a new war, and warned that it will "wipe out" aggressors if a conflict breaks out. The warning follows Washington's pledge to provide an "extended" nuclear umbrella for South Korea against the threat of a nuclear strike from the North, as tensions grow over the reclusive state's nuclear activities. Pyongyang said in a statement carried by the official newspaper Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday that "if the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all." North Korea also pledged "dark clouds of nuclear war" and a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" so that the South will not survive under the U.S. nuclear umbrella. "As long as the U.S. hostile policy continues, we will never give up our nuclear deterrent and even strengthen it." However, the Pentagon was dismissive over the North's threat. "I don't even know how to respond to that. It's silliness," Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell told reporters. "For what and with what?"
  3. From The Sunday Times July 5, 2009 Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites. Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility. The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials. “The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week. Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis. John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations who recently visited the Gulf, said it was “entirely logical” for the Israelis to use Saudi airspace. Bolton, who has talked to several Arab leaders, added: “None of them would say anything about it publicly but they would certainly acquiesce in an overflight if the Israelis didn’t trumpet it as a big success.” Arab states would condemn a raid when they spoke at the UN but would be privately relieved to see the threat of an Iranian bomb removed, he said. Referring to the Israeli attack on an alleged Syrian nuclear facility in 2007, Bolton added: “To this day, the Israelis haven’t admitted the specifics but there’s one less nuclear facility in Syria . . .” Recent developments have underscored concerns among moderate Sunni Arab states about the stability of the repressive Shi’ite regime in Tehran and have increased fears that it may emerge as a belligerent nuclear power. “The Saudis are very concerned about an Iranian nuclear bomb, even more than the Israelis,” said a former head of research in Israeli intelligence. The Israeli air force has been training for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear site at Natanz in the centre of the country and other locations for four years.

  5. Chickenpox Boy Died After Hospital Release UK, Friday July 03, 2009 A five year old boy died from chickenpox just two weeks after being sent home by hospital staff. Fabio Alves-Nunes suffered multiple organ failure after a severe reaction to the illness. His death was the result of a series of "significant failings" by East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, an independent report said. When parents Anna and Ricardo Alva-Nunes telephoned three times requesting an urgent home visit from their GP a receptionist told them to give their son a cold bath and some Calpol. The couple only received an apology 16 months after their son's death. Mr Alves-Nunes, 36, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We'll remember our little boy like this, his eyes so swollen he could barely see, his body covered in open weeping sores, his favourite pyjamas soaked through with blood, sweat and pus. "He was hallucinating and so wiped out from the pain and dehydration he could not even lift his own head. "We knew something was terribly wrong. So why didn't two doctors and three nurses?" Parents released this image of Fabio on day A&E discharged him…..
  6. Health The Most Dangerous Female Sport: Cheerleading By LiveScience Staff July 6, 2009 Cheerleading safety efforts have led to modest reductions in the number of serious injuries in recent years, according to a new report about college and high school sports and cheerleading mishaps. But cheerleading caused more serious and deadly injuries by far than other female sports during the study period. Researchers have long known how dangerous cheerleading is , but records were poorly kept until recently. An update to the record-keeping system last year found that between 1982 and 2007, there were 103 fatal, disabling or serious injuries recorded among female high school athletes, with the vast majority (67) occurring in cheerleading. The next most dangerous sports: gymnastics (nine such injuries) and track (seven).
  7. Greek Law Restricts Public Smoking 01 Jul 2009 ATHENS, Greece - Europe's most nicotine-addicted nation adopted a new public smoking ban Wednesday in a bid to stub out the Greek habit of lighting up practically everywhere. Exceptions have been made for mental patients and gamblers. Unrestricted indoor smoking in restaurants, bars, coffee shops and workplaces is now against the law, in the third ban Greece has tried to impose over the past decade. "We want to change the mentality of many years and adapt our daily habits ... to the practices in effect in all civilized countries," Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos said. "Greek society is ready for this." European Union figures show that 37.6 percent of Greeks aged over 15 smoke on a daily basis -- the highest level in the 27-nation EU. According to the Health Ministry, the habit kills 20,000 Greek smokers every year, and another 700 die as a result of passive smoking. But the government has stopped shy of imposing a blanket ban, and critics say this will render the new law as ineffective as the two previous ones -- which were generally ignored by smokers and authorities alike. Small establishments will be able to choose whether they will be exclusively smoking or nonsmoking, and bigger ones can set aside smoking areas. And all hospitals and health services will be smoke free -- apart from mental institutions, where patients will be able to smoke under prescription "for purely curative purposes," according to the new law. Smokers will also be free to indulge in casino gaming areas. Offenders will face fines ranging from euro50 for smokers to a maximum euro20,000 for the owners of bars, restaurants and coffee shops caught for multiple infractions. A poll earlier this year found that 95 percent of nonsmokers and 62 percent of smokers backed a public smoking ban. "It's a positive measure," said Athens kiosk worker Pavlos Giannopoulos. "It's all a matter of habit, as long as (the law) is enforced."

  10. In The Driver's Seat Minnesota pair busted after getting busy behind the wheel JULY 2--Responding Tuesday evening to a report of "people having intercourse" in a mall parking lot, cops in Fergus Falls, Minnesota were en route to the crime scene when they noticed suspicious activity in a vehicle traveling towards them. "I noticed that there was a passenger in the vehicle and she appeared to be bouncing up and down on the driver's lap in a very vigorous motion," Officer Andrew Renner noted in a police report. When cops pulled over the vehicle, driver Matthew Milligan, 22, reeked of booze and his "pants were not on completely." Milligan was charged with drunk driving after he failed a series of field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. Milligan's partner, Nikie Rae Johnson, 21, was also intoxicated, cops reported. But she was only cited for not wearing a seat belt. Which is, of course, understandable considering all that bouncing up and down. Milligan is pictured below in an Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office mug shot. Johnson's photo, snapped in a car, is from an online profile in which her interests are said to include, "Having good times!!PartyIN-Dancing-& just loVin liFe**:)."
  11. 36-year-old Boise woman and 30-year-old half-brother arrested, charged with incest idahostatesman.com Published: 07/02/09 Brian L. Reed, 30, and Marilyn R. Lee, 36, are both being held in the Ada County Jail on felony incest charges. Boise police say they arrested Lee at her workplace just before noon Wednesday. Reed, Lee’s half brother, is a registered sex offender who was already in jail on a probation violation when he was arrested on the same charge Tuesday — the same day the arrest warrants were issued. Boise police officials didn’t release much information about the case Thursday other than saying they began their investigation earlier this year after Idaho Department of Probation and Parole agents asked for help with an ongoing case involving Reed. Boise police say the sexual activity between Reed and Lee is reported to have taken place over the last several months at various locations around Boise, and that Ada County prosecutors made the decision to file the incest charges. Reed is on felony probation following an a conviction for sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17 from 2002, according to the Idaho State Police sex offender registry. Details on what led to that conviction were not available Thursday. Idaho Code defines incest as “Persons being within the degrees of consanguinity within which marriages are declared by law to be incestuous and void, who intermarry with each other, or who commit fornication or adultery with each other.” The charge of felony incest is punishable by up to life in prison.
  12. Terifying View From Glass Box Balcony July 2, 2009 “ If you’re scared of heights, it may be time to look away now . Not content with having the tallest building in America, the owners of Sears Tower in Chicago have installed four glass box viewing platforms which stick out of the building 103 floors up. The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building’s Skydeck. Designers say the platforms – collectively dubbed The Ledge – have been purposely designed to make visitors feel as they are floating above the city. The reward is unobstructed views of Chicago from the building’s west side and a heart-stopping vista of the street and Chicago River below – for those brave enough to look straight down.”

  17. Midget wrestlers found dead after hooker romp 03/07/2009   Two Mexican midget wrestlers are reportedly dead after a booze-fueled drinking session with prostitutes. British tabloid newspaper The Sun reported the pair were found in a Mexico City motel room. They were brothers Alberto and Alejandro Jiménez, known in wrestling circles as La Parkita and Espectrito Jr. The paper reported the 35-year-old brothers were found by cleaners after they had picked up two prostitutes and taken them back to their motel room near the Arena Mexico wrestling venue. It said autopsies were being carried out but it was believed the pair had overdosed after taking a dose of eye drops combined with alcohol. The brothers reportedly showed no signs of physical violence and their belongings were not at the scene. The prostitutes have since been taken into police custody.
  18. denver & the west Fort Collins woman accused of sex with "Furry" teen By The Denver Post  07/02/2009 A 45-year-old Fort Collins mother is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy who also was part of a group that enjoys dressing up as animals. Richael L. Michels faces sexual assault on a child charges, according to the arrest affidavit the Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper posted on its website. Her husband notified the Colorado Department of Human Services in May that his wife might be having an improper online relationship with a teen-aged boy, the affidavit says. He also told investigators she had "recently become involved with a group known as 'Furries,' who dress up like animals and have social gatherings online and in person." Members of the group gave statements to police after the woman's affectionate, sometimes intimate behavior with the teenager at Furries gatherings, called "furmeets." According to the arrest affadavit, Michels is friends with the boy's mother. The boy told investigators Michels "even made a comment about the irony of (his) mom trusting her as a mentor ... and the whole time she was having sex with him." The boy told police that he and Michels had sex several times, according to the affidavit.
  19. Jul 1, 2009 11:24 pm US/Pacific Teacher Gives Sex Tape To 5th Graders On DVD   ELK GROVE, Calif (CBS13) ― At least one family discovered the explicit material when they played the DVD at home.   A local teacher accidentally put pornography into a DVD that was meant to be filled with school memories from the past year, and nobody caught the error until after it was sent home, shocking parents and students alike. Parents of students who attend Isabelle Jackson Elementary said that the woman is a good teacher, but just made a mistake that may become the most embarrassing moment of their life. The offending DVD starts with a menu screen that displays various school trips and functions, and when you click on one of them, you see kids in a classroom sharing stories. They start clapping, then the video suddenly cuts to sex. "It goes from my son, straight to her on the couch," said 'Joe,' who saw the video along with his son and did not wish to be identified. "My son's reaction was, 'Dad, is that Ms. Defanti?'" "We were up till midnight doing the 'birds and the bees,'" he added. The person in the video turned out to be Isabelle Jackson Elementary fifth grade teacher Crystal Defanti. "All she could say was that it was a horrible mix up," Joe said. The teacher called his home the day after his child got the DVD, crying hysterically, profusely apologizing and asking the man and his wife to call every parent they knew to stop their kids from seeing the DVD too. The Elk Grove Unified School District says they are investigating, but legal experts say it's unlikely that the teacher will lose her job.
  20. Famous prostitute's gravestone deemed too 'slutty' Published: 2 Jul 09 The Local An artist’s design for the gravestone of Germany's most famous prostitute has been rejected by the cemetery authorities for being too "slutty," newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost reported Thursday.     GERMANY - The 77-year-old artist Tomi Ungerer’s parting gift to his friend Domenica Niehoff was to be a gravestone featuring two ample pink marble boulders in homage to her famously top-heavy figure. But those responsible for the Garden of Women cemetery, resting place of Hamburg’s most famous women, turned his design down, the paper reported. Ungerer, who declared his interest in designing her gravestone immediately after her death, reacted bitterly to the decision. Ungerer and Niehoff were friends for decades, and even shared a flat for a while in 1984. He published drawings of Niehoff and her colleagues in a book entitled “Guardian Angels of Hell” at the time. But the cemetery officials are not alone in criticising Ungerer’s memorial. Photographer Günther Zint, another friend of Niehoff, told the newspaper, “There was a bit of a debate among her friends whether Tomi needed to emphasise her breasts like that. They were after all a bane of her life.” Niehoff, who gained fame for advocating the rights of sex workers in the 70s and 80s, died at age 63 in February 2009. Originally from Cologne, Niehoff lived through drugs, child prostitution and desperate attempts to get out of the sex trade. She grew up in an orphanage before slipping into prostitution, when she married a brothel owner, who committed suicide ten years later. She worked as a prostitute in Munich and Hamburg and had her own brothel before she began to push for the legalisation of prostitution in Germany in the 1980s. She then became a social worker to help women to get off the street.
  21. Neighbors complain about bikini fireworks stand The News Tribune  07/02/09   Tacoma, WASHINGTON - For many, bikini-clad women and fireworks stands are sure signs that summer is here. But some Puyallup citizens say the two don’t belong together. Taking a clue from the area’s proliferation of bikini espresso joints, a stand called Nearly Naked Fireworks opened June 28 on the corner of North Meridian Street and Fifth Avenue Northeast. Neighbors who live on the north end of downtown Puyallup are not happy. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 17 people had contacted Puyallup city officials to complain about the bikini fireworks stand. The sign for the business – which reads “Nearly Naked Fireworks” in block letters, flanked by female silhouettes – is particularly offensive, Claeys said. “We have lots of young families with young children who are walking past that every day to go to the park,” said Claeys, who has three children under 16. “I just don’t think it’s appropriate by a grade school or a park. It’s just tacky.” Puyallup City Manager Gary McLean said city officials aren’t wild about having the bikini fireworks stand on Meridian, the city’s main thoroughfare. But there aren’t any laws under which the city can regulate the stand or its attention-grabbing sign, he said. “Simply put, nudity is prohibited, but wearing a bikini is not,” McLean said. “Local governments are not allowed to regulate speech in the private sector, so we can’t censor the name.” Business owner Rikk Martin said he decided to open the stand this year after noticing the success of coffee stands that employ bikini baristas. “It seems like it sells coffee – it should sell fireworks,” Martin said Wednesday. He said he thinks people who are upset about the business are overreacting. “You see girls dressed as scantily clad as mine at any park you go to,” Martin said. “It’s nothing obscene.” A few cars honked at her as they drove past.
  22. Zero Motorcycles Zero S July 02, 2009     $9,950  •  zeromotorcycles.com Zero's Newest Electric Motorcycle Is Good Clean Fun Power comes from a brushed permanent magnet motor that produces 31 horsepower and an impressive 62.5 foot-pounds of torque. Zero says the bike will do 65 mph -- 75 with the optional 47-tooth rear sprocket -- and hit 60 mph in less than four seconds. We'll have to take Zero's word for it until we get an uncorked S later this summer. The 4-kilowatt-hour lithium-manganese battery is good for an average range of 40 to 45 miles and a maximum of 60, depending upon how hard you twist the throttle. Once it's dead, you're looking at four hours to charge it from a 110-volt outlet. You can plug it into a 220-volt line but it won't charge any faster because the charger is limited to 1,000 watts, and at 110 volts, a 15-amp U.S. wall outlet already exceeds that by 650 watts. Unlike the Zero X, the S doesn't offer a swappable battery because the pack weighs 80 pounds, twice as much as the pack in the X. Zero figured that was too heavy for people to move around safely. Everything is wrapped in a gorgeous aluminum frame and plastic bodywork that, though bland, is stouter than a Romanian bodybuilder.

  24. Man Nabbed in Illegal Silicone Operation  7/7/2009 PALM COAST, FL -- Investigators are looking for people who may have turned to a man in Flagler County for silicone injections.Donnie Hendrix does not have a license to practice medicine and he's now in jail, accused of running an illegal home-based operation. The Flagler County Sheriff's deputies and the Florida Department of Health arrested Hendrix, also known as "Viva," Tuesday morning.Hendrix has been charged with practicing medicine without a license and unlicensed practice of a health care profession.Deputies had Hendrix's home under surveillance for the past four months. Someone gave investigators an anonymous tip through Crimestoppers. The tipster said Hendrix had been offering injections ranging from $400 to $600 per session, and would perform the procedure in his bedroom. Major David O'Brien with the Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division says this is not Hendrix's first run-in with the law.He says that in 2003, Hendrix and another man went on trial in Broward County in connection with the 2001 death of a woman from Broward County who underwent treatment and later died.According to published reports, the woman's lungs filled with silicone during an injection to enlarge her hips. Hendrix served two years in a state correctional institution after being found guilty of operating without a license and culpable negligence. He was released in 2005 for time served. A co-defendant was found guilty of third-degree murder and illegally practicing medicine."This is a dangerous man. The Crimestoppers tip may have saved a life," said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.
  25. Female Swimsuit Malfunction July 1, 2009 “ It’s the wardrobe malfunction to end all wardrobe malfunctions . Italian Olympic swimmer Flavia Zoccari was forced to sit out a championship race at the Mediterranean Games yesterday after her bathing costume burst open in a very unfortunate place. She burst into tears as she was forced to stand down from her race.”
  26. Bill banning forced identity-chip implants clears House Inquirer Staff Writer HARRISBURG - Invasion of privacy is an issue that really gets under State Rep. Babette Josephs' skin. That's why the Philadelphia Democrat introduced a bill, passed unanimously last week by the House, that would ban the forced implantation of computer chips in humans. Conjuring Orwellian images, Josephs worries the identification devices - the size of a grain of rice - could lead to a real-life Big Brother nightmare. "I'm doing, I think, what the legislature does too little of," she said. "This is a problem on the horizon, and I want to address it before it becomes a societal disgrace." Though the technology hasn't debuted in Pennsylvania, VeriChip, a company in Florida, received federal Food and Drug Administration clearance in 2004 to market the implanted microchips, which were tested on 200 Alzheimer's patients. Injected into the triceps, the chips have unique 16-digit codes and GPS capabilities that allow nursing homes to find wandering patients. "I think it's really horrible that we want to chip them like barcoded packages of meat," said Kim Sultzbaugh, a research specialist who helped Josephs write the bill. California, North Dakota, and Wisconsin have enacted laws similar to the ban Josephs is proposing.

  29. Teacher Reprimanded For Backpack Feces Friday, 03 Jul 2009 YAKIMA, Wash. - A Washington kindergarten teacher who sent a 5-year-old student home with a bag of feces tucked in his backpack has been formally reprimanded. A West Valley School District official warned teacher Sue Graham in a letter that similar behavior in the future will result in disciplinary action, including termination. The boy's father had said his son arrived home in April with the plastic bag of feces and a note that read "This little turd was found on the floor in my room." The boy was moved out of Graham's classroom after the incident. The May letter was released Thursday in response to a public disclosure request from KIMA-TV. The district had previously said "appropriate action" was taken against the longtime teacher.
