Slide 3: HERO OF THE WEEK - Girl, 7, shot 6 times saving mom The Detroit News DETROIT -- A 7-year-old-girl is being hailed as an \"angel from heaven\" and a hero for jumping in front of an  enraged gunman, who pumped six bullets into the child as she used her body as a shield to save her mother's life.  Alexis Goggins, a first-grader at Campbell Elementary School, is in stable condition at Children's Hospital in Detroit  recovering from gunshot wounds to the eye, left temple, chin, cheek, chest and right arm.  \"She is an angel from heaven,\" said Aisha Ford, a family friend for 15 years who also was caught up in the evening  of terror.  The girl's mother, Selietha Parker, 30, was shot in the left side of her head and her bicep by a former boyfriend, who  police said was trying to kill Parker. The gunman was disarmed by police and arrested at the scene of the shooting,  a Detroit gas station. Police identified him as Calvin Tillie, 29, a four-time convicted felon whom Parker had dated  for six months.  Parker, who was treated and released at Detroit Receiving Hospital, is now at her daughter's bedside. She declined  to comment Tuesday.  Marvin Bodley, a Detroit Public Schools attendance agent, spent two days at Alexis' hospital bedside and said it's  miraculous that she's alive.  \"What a courageous, courageous little girl,\" he said. \"You see more bandages than child,\" he said. \"It's a horrific  sight.\" 

Slide 4: The Guennol Lioness, a tiny and extremely rare 5,000-year-old white limestone sculpture from ancient Mesopotamia sold for 57.2 million dollars in New York on Wednesday, smashing records for both sculpture and antiquities.

Slide 5: The Lamborghini Reventon is among the rarest and most exotic cars on Earth, and it's 650-hp V12 and  lightweight components make it one of the best performers, too. Unfortunately, the Italian automaker  has decided to produce only 20 examples of the $1 million supercar, and the closest we'll likely ever get  to the stealth-inspired rocket is YouTube.  The scholastic studs over at Popular Science got time behind the wheel of the Reventon, and they had  their cameras rolling. The sound of the V12 parked in the back of the Italian supercar will never be  mistaken for anything built here in the States, as its eager whine sounds more like a crotch rocket than  anything powering four wheels. The video can be found after the jump, and though the camera work  may not be very good, we imagine it's tough to keep a steady hand in a vehicle that can surpass 200  MPH and hits 60 in just 3.4 seconds.

Slide 7: Macau Billionaire Stanley Ho Bids $330,000 For a Giant Truffle Florence, Italy (AHN) -- Macau casino mogul and billionaire Stanley Ho bid a staggering $330,000 for a  giant white truffle at auction Saturday, beating the offers of U.K.-based artist Damien Hirst and Sheik  Mansoor Bin Zayed al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi. The truffle, weighing 1.5 kilograms, is now considered the world's biggest besting the 1.29-kg truffle  found in Croatia in 1999, which holds the Guinness World Record. Ho's bid also topped the previous  record for a truffle at $212,000. Truffle hunter Luciano Savini's dog dug up the highly-prized fungus in  Tuscany in northern Italy, on Nov. 23.

Slide 9: 7 face prostitution charges in Melbourne Florida Today The Melbourne Police Department’s Special Operations Unit arrested seven women on charges of  prostitution Wednesday night from various locations near U.S. 1. Police also seized .50 grams of cocaine, according to Cmdr. Ron Bell. Those arrested are: Susan Bottorff, 45, Verity Burke, 29, Vicki Lynn Kidd, 43, Jill Vanderwarker, 27, Mary Ann Pintner, 55, Lora Gulledge, 41, and Patricia Ann Petty, 25.

Slide 10: Man arrested for sex with 14-year-old  Sunday, 02 Dec 2007, 5:11  BARTOW - Polk detectives have arrested a Ft. Lauderdale man after they say he traveled to Polk  County on numerous occasions to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. According to Polk investigators, 39-year-old Richard Gagnon Jr. came to Polk County five different  times, and took the girl to different motels for sex. Detectives say the two met on MySpace, and Gagnon communicated with her via MySpace instant  messaging, Yahoo instant messaging and over a cell phone. Gagnon was arrested yesterday at a Motel 6 at 3120 U.S. Highway 98 North in Lakeland. Deputies found Gagnon and the victim there after the victim snuck out of her house, leaving a note for  her mother that she would be gone for about a week. The girl's mother contacted police, and detectives were able to figure out where she was after talking to  her friends. Gagnon was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail. He has been charged with interference with child custody, enticing a child via the internet, traveling to  meet a minor, three counts of lewd battery, and three counts of lewd molestation.

This is indeed a very serious reason for men to enjoy without shame those midnight TV shows, download low-budget  women-in-prison movies and collect such instructive and health beneficial magazines like Playboy and Hustler. 

Slide 12: Day-release convicts caught with drug crop  Two convicts on day-release from a German prison were caught tending their illegal cannabis crop in an  empty warehouse nearby, German authorities said on Monday. German customs agents discovered the 1,200 cannabis plants in the warehouse in the western town of  Moers and detained the two convicts, immediately ending the furlough and sending them back to jail. The customs agents said the men, who were on day-release to find jobs, were planning to export their  harvest to the Netherlands.

Slide 14: Teen tells trial of sexual encounters with teacher Andrew Seymour Published: Monday, December 03, 2007   CORNWALL, Ont. - A former junior high school student believed he was in love with a Grade 8 teacher when the  two had a sexual encounter more than three years ago, the teen testified Monday.  The student, who was 13 in September 2004, testified that Jennifer Dorland, then 39, rubbed his genitals while he  touched her breasts and buttocks on a couch in the basement of her Cornwall-area home.  The two had arranged to take the day off school, he told the court.  \"We just kept kissing and touching and rubbing against one another,\" said the now 17-year-old, whose identity is  protected by a publication ban. The teen testified he briefly touched Dorland's vagina during a two-hour rendezvous. They did not have intercourse,  he said. \"I knew I wasn't supposed to do it, but at the same time I enjoyed it. I wanted it,\" he said. \"I was attracted to Mrs.  Dorland. I hadn't felt like that with anybody before.\" Following the initial incident, the teen testified Dorland rubbed his genitals at least three other times during tutoring  sessions and in her car.  The soft-spoken teen, who was  in Grade 9 at the time, told the court the sexual encounters ended after his father discovered two e-mails Dorland  sent him and showed them to his mother, who then confronted the teacher. However, Dorland wasn't charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching until  January 2006, when the teen provided his father with details about the alleged encounters. The teacher has pleaded not guilty. She has been suspended from teaching since the charges were laid.
