  • 2. Beyond Basketball – Background Information:
    • 2007. Elmbridge International Basketball Club is founded with the support of DC Leisure Management and Elmbridge Borough Council. 7 of each players attended Brooklands College
    • 3. 2008. Elmbridge International Club and Elmbridge Basketball Club merged in order to support the development of Basketball in Elmbridge
    • 4. 2008. Basketball becomes PRIORITY SPORT for Elmbridge Borough Council
    • 5. 2009. Sport Unlimited Basketball is launched in January; Hinchley Wood, Rydens College, Heathside and Esher High took part in the programme
    • 6. Sport Unlimited Basketball continues in April; Hinchley Wood, Rydens College, Heathside and Esher High took part in the programme
    • 7. 2009. Elmbridge Basketball Club and Elmbridge Borough Council begin to discuss the creation of Elmbridge Basketball Academy in July
    • 8. 2009. Elmbridge Basketball club and Elmbridge Borough Council invite local colleges and schools to take part in the project in August
    • 9. 2009. Elmbridge Borough Council is granted £8,500 (Small Grants Award) in order to promote and develop basketball in local schools ( target group: 8 – 10 years old students)

  • 10. Beyond Basketball – Sport Unlimited Outcome:
    2007/2008. Surrey Youth Games. Elmbridge Borough Council represented by 1 team . 12 participants took part in the trials prior the final tournament
    2008/2009. Surrey Youth Games. Elmbridge Borough Council represented by 2 team. 38 participants took part in the trials prior the final tournament
    2009/2010. Elmbridge Basketball Academy is founded to support basketball development in Elmbridge Borough
    2009/2010. Elmbridge Basketball Academy organises team trials for the Under 14 squad. First session = 26 participants (07/09/09). Second session = 36 participants (14/09/2009). Saturdays recreational first session (15 participants)

  • 11. Beyond Basketball – The Project:
    Aim. To become one of the best student – athlete programmes in the United Kingdom by 2012 – Centre of Excellence / England Basketball Accredited Academy
    Objective 1. To establish a Community Sport Network in partnership with the local authority, local colleges, local schools and local businesses
    Objective 2. To monitor, control and evaluate the development of young student – athletes from the early stages of their development to professionalism
    Objective 3. To achieve a 100% record in the class room (Average grade= Merit)
    Objective 4. To create, develop and sustain a professional structure by providing work placements to students attending Brooklands College
    Objective 5. To support Brooklands College Sport Studies Department by acting as bridge between the college and students from deprived groups of population

    Elmbridge Basketball club monitors controls and evaluates Elmbridge Basketball Academy project

    Participants in the project will obtain professional and vocational qualifications plus practical experience
