How to Build a Successful and Sustainable Business

Hi Cameron Brown here and you’re watching BizLeagueTV. Today I’m going to share with you what this
tree, or what’s left of it has to do with you building a successful & sustainable business. Stay tuned, you’re
going to want to see this.

So we had some crazy weather through here recently and it did a lot of damage to both property and to
nature like this poor tree here. What does this have to do with you building a successful & sustainable
business? Well check out the structure of this tree here… Yes you’ve got a lot of foliage and branches up
here and I’m sounding a lot like a gardening show right now, but we’ll stay with it!

Down here, we’ve got a root system and you’ve got a couple of thick roots here, but most of it’s made up
of these thin roots. Now what’s happened is obviously the wind has come and it’s blown the tree over
because the root system hasn’t been strong enough. This is the mistake I see a lot of business owners
make… They go ‘Top Heavy’. They go and get all these bright ideas, creative strategies and things they
could do to improve their business, yet they don’t have the foundations in place and that’s a recipe for
disaster, especially when crisis hits.

So what I want to give you is 3 key tips to get the foundations right so that your other strategies get a
maximum return for your effort and ends up being long term success rather than just short lived.

1. Marketing System: Get a basic marketing system in place that generates leads on a consistent
basis and the key word there is consistent, otherwise you’re going to be worried about where your
next client’s going to come from and that’s a stress that you don’t need.
2. Sales Process: Get a basic sales process in place so that you know where your potential client
is in that process and you know what the next step is to move them along to becoming a client of
yours… That will allow you to fill some gaps that you’ve currently got in your business.
3. Know Your Numbers: Know how much money’s coming in, know how much money’s going out.
Know the figures and not just at the end of the quarter or the end of the year, know this on a
weekly basis. In the programs that we run, we’ve got a KPI Scoreboard and this allows the
‘players’ to track how they’re going in their businesses. It’s really important that you do that on a
regular & consistent basis rather than at the end of the year because that’s too late. You need to
know how on track you are to success, how on track you are to your goals.
So now I want to hear from you, what’s one thing, just one thing that you’re going to put into place in
terms of these foundations and I don’t care if you’re just starting out or you’ve been in business for a while
now, there’s always tweaks that can be made to these foundations

So just one thing, type it into the comments box, I’d love to hear from you.

So that’s this week’s tip. If you enjoyed it, please click like, share it with your friends and please, post a
