Cooperation is the process of groups working or acting together for their common/mutual benefit,
as opposed to working in competition for selfish benefit. A look at open source concepts and symbiotic relationships in nature.

6. Symbiotic Relationships
• Many animal species
cooperate with each other
in mutual symbiosis. One
example is the Clownfish,
which dwells among the
tentacles of sea anemones.
The anemones provide the
clownfish with protection
from their predators (which
cannot tolerate the stings of
the anemone's tentacles),
while the fish defend the
anemones against
butterflyfish (which eat
anemones).

humans to cooperate
on a very large scale.

9. Dunbar’s Number
Dunbar's number is a
suggested cognitive limit
to the number of people
with whom one can
maintain stable social
relationships. These are
relationships in which an
individual knows who
each person is and how
each person relates to
every other person

10. Allen Curve
• In Communication
theory, the Allen curve
is a graphical
representation that
reveals the exponential
drop of frequency of
communication
between engineers as
the distance between
them increases.

13. Reciprocity
Reciprocity is the
expectation that people
will respond to each
other in similar ways—
responding to gifts and
kindnesses from others
with similar benevolence
of their own, and
responding to harmful,
hurtful acts from others
with either indifference
or some form of
retaliation.

14. Collaboration
• Collaboration is working with
others to do a task and to achieve
shared goals.
• A process where two or more
organizations work together to
realize shared goals
• Sharing knowledge, learning and
building consensus. Most
collaboration requires leadership,
although the form of leadership
can be social within a
decentralized and egalitarian
group (this relies on negotiation)
• Teams that work collaboratively
can obtain greater resources,
recognition and reward
