Salmat BusinessForce is the leading outsourced business services
provider in the Asia Pacific region, delivering inbound and outbound
communication management, results processing and information
management services. Salmat provides customized solutions for needs
in areas such as print, mail services, invoice and statement
management, insurance claim processing, and accounts payable right
through to more complex business process solutions, marketing
programs and e-commerce alternatives.
My role at Salmat is to support and improve existing systems as well
as develop and implement new applications for external clients.
Development is typically perfromed utilizing Perl/GCI programming
and Unix Shell scripting.
Some of Salmat’s customers that I directly support include CBA,
ANZ, NAB, Medibank, Optus, BOC, RSL, Tower and Suncorp
Salmat’s core systems are hosted on Unix AIX and Windows servers.
Products used are IBM DB2, IBM OnDemand, Apache, Websphere,
Rational ClearCase and Rational ClearQuest.

Navitaire is the world’s leading supplier of end-to-end Airline
Management Solutions. Navitaires products include Reservation
systems, Operations and Recovery systems, Revenue and Decision
Support systems as well as Crew Management systems. Local
customers include Qantas, Air NZ, Virgin and Jetstar along with many
U.S., Asian and European based carriers. Navitaire also provide Web
Hosting for around 50 airlines world wide.
My role at Navitaire is to provide support for the above systems as
well as developing and implementing automated support solutions
for a variety of servers including Linux, Unix and Windows. I am also
actively involved in the building and tuning of web servers, Apache
configuration and development of migration tools.
Navitaire’s core systems are hosted on Linux (Red Hat), Unix (Solaris
& HP) and Windows platforms. Software is predominately written in
Perl/CGI and databases include Sybase, Oracle, Mysql and Sequel.

in Perl, Mysql, and native Html. The site is hosted on Linux (Red Hat)
platform with a Cobalt developer interface.

Patrick Corporation (Logistics Division)
The Logistics division of Patrick Corporation are the supply chain
managers for many National and International companies. The
primary software tool used by Patrick’s is the Paperless Warehouse
Management System. Trade Express has recently been purchased to
replace the legacy file transfer management system written in
Perl/”C” and Shell. This software is the input output pipe into
“Paperless”. My role has been to analyse the existing system and
provide documentation for the conversion team. My documentation
tasks have included data mapping to and from the Paperless System,
customer file definition, description of configuration variables and
host dependencies. Hosts used by Patrick’s are IBM AIX and HPUX.
As the above task has been completed ahead of schedule Patrick’s
have offered me some additional work automating some of their

During a period of unemployment I donated my time to developing a
software package that I could market to Sporting Clubs. This software
server under a Plesk 7 interface.
Fifteen clubs have now purchased my software package.

Jun. 1998 – Sep 2002 Operations Analyst (Automation) / Perl/CGI Web Developer
HIH Insurance (In Liquidation)
Prior to liquidation HIH Insurance was Australia's second largest
general insurer, operating in the direct insurance market as FAI & CIC
insurance. HIH had an I.T. department of 400 people, and an
operational support area of around 50 people. Hardware used by HIH
consisted of HP, Sequent, Sun, IBM AIX, and EMC storage.
Production databases were Oracle.
My main duties in this role focused on operational improvement
primarily in area of automated scheduling and batch processing as
well as development of monitoring and support tools to assist
applications support staff. I was also involved in management of the
Production Support Team, Web Programming, Project Management
and occasionally providing systems support on a 24x7 basis ensuring
that Service Level Agreements were satisfied.
Some of my major achievements in this role included -
· Development and implementation of an Intranet based fully
automated scheduling and batch processing system responsible for
managing 20,000 batch jobs per month. This system resulted in a
40% reduction in processing times, a 50% reduction in
operational staff requirements and a 100% reduction in

I was initially employed by HIH with the specific purpose of fully
automating all batch processing running on the Fujitsu Mainframe.
Once this was completed my role then changed to the management of
all aspects production support as well as managing several large
projects in preparation for conversion to the new system. These
successes were all achieved in a relatively short time frame, resulting
in my promotion and transfer to the Unix environment.
Apr. 1995 – Apr. 1996 Analyst Programmer (Unix AIX)
My main duties were analysis and programming to user specifications
in Progress Version 6 on Unix AIX. This software included Point of
Sale with GST, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General
Ledger, Inventory Control, Quote Preparation and Sales History.
Sterland’s Software named “Prostix” is distributed to 30 retail clients
in Australia and New Zealand.

BBC Hardware was a hardware retail business with 250 stores
operating in 16 different price zones across Australia and New
As the Systems Programmer on a Fujistu M760 Mainframe my main
duties included system upgrades, system security, system tuning,
database management, network administration (TCP/IP) to UNIX
servers running solaris, system documentation and capacity planning.
Further to these tasks I was allocated several projects to manage
which included automation of all batch processing, setting up a fully
operational Disaster Recovery Site and managing an I.T. department

BBC initially employed me as an application programmer developing
in COBOL/AIM VSAM and later in ADABAS/NATURAL. The IT
department processed Debtors, Creditors, General Ledger, Payroll,
Stock Management, Warehouse Distribution, and Sales History.

Time Life International
Time Life ran a subscription service for Time Magazine as well as an
inventory maintenance system for Time Life Books, Direct mailing
Promotions and Circulation statistics.
Initially I was employed as a trainee operator on a Control Data 6600
preparing and running all batch schedules.
When Time Life decided to purchase a Prime 500 I was involved in
the conversion and parallel running on the new system. This
involvement allowed me to be promoted to Systems Administrator of
the Prime System.
Later on I was assigned the task of managing Direct Mail Promotions,
which included some Cobol programming.
