Many people know the historical “Attachmate” as a leading, long-time provider of terminal emulation software. But in the last 12 months Attachmate has been reborn as a top provider of software solutions for IT operations…In June of 2005, Attachmate merged with WRQ software to create the #1 independent provider of host connectivity solutions. This was a great merger in that the two companies brought together complimentary strengths: Attachmate in the IBM and Unisys markets, WRQ in the connectivity to HP, Unix, and other Open Systems. Conveniently, both companies were located in the Seattle area. At the time of the merger, the new company was named AttachmateWRQ. Then in April of this year AttachmateWRQ announced their intention to merge with NetIQ. The transaction closed on June 30, 2006 and with the closing, we announced that we would be doing business as “Attachmate”… Attachmate is owned by an investment group lead by Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital, and Thoma Cressey Equity partners. This group first came together with the acquisition of WRQ. Inc in January of 2005. Jeff Hawn was named as CEO. Formally a Senior VP at BMC and a partner in McKinsey & Company, Jeff is responsible for corporate direction as well as business and acquisition strategies of Attachmate. So through the combination of these great companies, Attachmate becomes one of the Top 10 privately held software companies in the world. As you will see we are a financially sound company that is in a position to continue to invest in products and solutions to meet the needs of our customers…. So why is this important to you? Firstly , we have become more relevant to our customers… with our combined footprint, Attachmate carries more weight with purchasing and procurement departments… all of this ensures that we are easier to do business with, and with a cost model that has a long term benefit to our customers… Secondly , from making the change from a public company to a private company we have saved substantial expense. SOX costs on average are 5-10% of revenue for public companies today… By going private, we have cut these cost and refocused this investment into our products… Thirdly , we have a much more balanced portfolio… Attachmate’s legacy products in “host connectivity” dominate the market and are extremely mature… they afford us the ability to continue to invest in other high growth and less mature market-areas of our product portfolio… as such we have achieved optimal balance within this portfolio and you will now see increased capacity and focus on NetIQ products as a result… And finally , there is a strong strategic linkage here to our end-users… AttachmateWRQ and NetIQ have sold into the IT operations function. This synergy allows us to continue with these relationships and affords our customers with economies of scale and influence.

Implement what’s reasonable and practical and based on your risk. This is where we can help with Security Management. Second, build the instrumentation you need to give you insight into YOUR GAME. How do you know when things are running smoothly and when they’re not? For this, you need Systems Management. Third, help your business grow by tapping into the value of your mission critical systems. When your business needs it, can you deliver services that exploit your mainframes, midrange systems or other legacy systems. For that, you need Host Connectivity. And finally, focus on your players and tactics, your people and processes. Are you capturing and reusing knowledge, or does it leave when your people “join another team”. More importantly, how effective are you at executing your plays, your run books. For this, take a look at IT Process Automation.

And of course, that’s where Attachmate and NetIQ can help. For Systems Management, NetIQ AppManager and the NetIQ Administration products can give you the insight into and control of your infrastructure, like a coach watching plays on video. Not only do they give you real-time control, they provide you the historical reporting you need to make changes to your infrastructure. For Security Management, NetIQ Security Manager and Secure Configuration Manager enable you to quickly implement controls to meet your compliance mandates, while leaving your IT administrators the freedom to do their jobs best. With our security products, you can easily demonstrate compliance and risk management without consuming too much of your staff’s time and talent. With Host Connectivity, Attachmate Reflection, EXTRA! and Verastream enable your employees and your distributed applications to tap into your most valuable resources residing on your legacy systems. Let’s face it, your legacy systems aren’t going away: they’re reliable and secure, and they probably hold your best information assets. We can help you get more out of those assets! Knowledge bases are a critical component of the NetIQ systems and security management products. These products not only ship with out-of-the-box knowledge, but they allow for updates from both NetIQ and from within your own company. This helps capture that knowledge that gets created in your business and reuse it when needed.

AppManager earned the Best Management Product award at Microsoft Management Summit 2007. We’ve also announced updated AppManager support for Exchange 2007, SharePoint, VMware, Voice over IP technologies, and more. Speaking of VoIP, we’re announcing support for Avaya later this quarter, adding to our support of Nortel and Cisco today. We also launched new releases of our flagship Administration product, Directory & Resource Administrator, introducing support for Exchange 2007 and other enhancements you have been wanting. Along with DRA, we just released Exchange Migrator 7.0 this month to help you migrate to Exchange 2007. On the security front, we launched NetIQ Secure Configuration Manager and Security Manager 5.6 in November, and then NetIQ Security Manager 6.0 in July. Security Manager 6.0 streamlined our log management capabilities, but also introduced new change monitoring for Windows and other improvements. Just before this launch, we also earned a spot in Gartner’s Leader’s Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management. This marks the second year in a row that we’ve earned this distinction. Adding to that success, Security Manager was also awarded NIAP certification, also known as Common Criteria certification. This means Security Manager has been validated by a third-party to meet the highest levels of security, quality, reliability and scalability sought in enterprise security solutions. On the Host Connectivity side, we were the first to deliver a terminal emulation package that is Certified for Windows Vista. Reflection 2007 not only supports Vista, but is tightly integrated with Office 2007 applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook. This release was instrumental in our achieving another major milestone: 65,000 customers! We’ve had many other major releases and improvements over the last year, but let’s talk about where we’re headed.

Our vision remains focused on delivering you tools to extend, manage and secure your IT infrastructure. But this vision encompasses that final element of my Football analogy: IT Process Automation . As you’re going to hear about, and SEE here at NetConnect, we’re delivering NetIQ Aegis (ee-jis), the first product of its kind to provide both lower-level run book automation with higher level, cross-silo IT process automation. It enables you to model, document, automate and measure your IT processes. This helps minimize the impact of turnover, but also improves the execution of your processes.

Support and roll-out our products in your environment Automate your IT processes Implement best practices such as ITIL Over the next two days, you’ll get the chance to learn more about all of these areas…
