  • With fewer employees, staff may need to multi-task more and take on more roles.   • Note that these 3 motivators are strategic, not tactical, and are enablers for the employee and the organization to be prepared to move forward. They bring value to the employee as well as to the organization. Adults don’t have time to go to brick and mortar schools, but they still need to hone their skills. So instead, bring the “school” to them.
  • The youngest of the Silent Generation, which is the smallest group, would be 64 in 2006. These may make up high-level presidents and owners of SMBs. They may not be comfortable with technology, but with a little guidance can become adept. Since they learn by lecture, e-Learning may be valued as a reference tool. The Boomers, who make up the largest group, learn by sharing, so e-Learning can be used as part of a blended learning approach, along with classroom, mentoring, and coaching. Also, as this group retires, succession planning becomes the key to not losing business expertise within an organization. Gen X doesn’t like to read and works best learning alone. E-Learning provides value from both perspectives: it’s self-directed and interactive. Gen Y, which is the second largest group, grew up with technology and expects to be immersed in technology 24/7. No technology learning curve here – they can grab quick topics to learn as they need it. For all generations, e-Learning can be used as part of a formal learning program as well as an informal learning tool.
