Biodiversity

  1. 1.  INTRODUCTION DISTRIBUTION BENEFITS SPECIES AND THIER EXTINCTION THREATS CONSERVATION CONCLUSION
  2. 2.  BIODIVERSITY IS THE DEGREE OF VARIATION OF LIFE FORMS WITHIN A GIVEN ECO SYSTEM OR A PLANET IT CONSISTS OF MILLIONS OF LIFE FORMS ON THE EARTH SPREAD UNEVEN ON EARTH THE YEAR 2010 IS DECLARED AS THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF BIODIVERSITY
  3. 3. BIODIVERSITY IS NOT EVENLYDISTRIBUTED.IT DEPENDS UPONCLIMATE,ALTITUDE,SOILS ANDPRESENCE OF OTHER SPIECES.ITCONSISTENTLY MEASURES HIGHERIN TROPICS THAN IN POLES.THE FOLLOWING TABLE PROVIDESMORE INFORMATION ABOUT THISTOPIC.
  4. 4. DISTRIBUTION TERRESTRIAL AQUATIC ARIEL(LAND SPIECES)(WATER SPIECES) (AIR SPIECES)
  5. 5. DISTRIBUTION
  6. 6. THE ECOSYSTEM HELPS US IN MANYWAYS HUMAN BENEFITS AND HUMAN HEALTH BIODIVERSITY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AIR QUALITY,CLIMATE,WATER PURIFICATION,POLLINATION AND PREVENTION OF EROSION.THEY ARE THE SOURCES OF MANY DISEASES AND MANY MEDICINES TOO. AGRICULTURE THEY ARE VERY USEFUL IN THE PRODUCTION OF A CROP. THEY CARRY OUT DECOMPOSITION AND NITROGEN FIXATION ETC
  7. 7.  BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY THEY PROVIDE US WITH BUILDING MATERIALS, FIBRES,DYES,RUBBER,OIL,TIMBER,PAPER, FOOD,MEDICINAL RESOURCES. OTHER USES IT PLAYS A PART IN REGULATING THE CHEMISTRY OF OUR ATMOSPHERE BY PURIFYING WATER,RECYCLING THE NUTRIENTS AND BY POLLINATION
  8. 8. ACCORDING TO THE GLOBAL TAXONOMY INITIATIVE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SPECIES ARE DENOTED AS BELOW 10-30 MILLION INSECTS 5-10 MILLION BACTERIA 1.5 MILLION FUNGI 1 MILLION MITES MANY SUCH NEW SPIECES ARE DISCOVERED INTHIS NEW WORLD .
  9. 9. DURING THE LAST CENTURY,DECREASES INBIODIVERSITY HAVE BEEN INCREASINGLYOBSERVED. 30% OF ALL NATURAL SPIECESWILL BE EXTINCT BY 2050. OF THESE ABOUTONE EIGTH OF KNOWN PLANT SPIECES ARETHREATENED BY EXTINCTION. ABOUT1,40,000 SPIECES BECOME EXTINCT BY ONEYEAR.ONLY A SMALL NUMBER OF SPIECESEVOLVE EACH YEAR. BUT THE DESTRUCTIONIS MORE.
  10. 10. MOST OF THE SPIECES EXTINCTION FROM 1000AD TO2000 AD IS DUE TO HUMAN ACTIVITIES. THEIRHABITATS ARE REFORMED AS CROPLANDS,PASTURELANDS,ORCHADS ETC. THE SIZE OF THE HABITATAND THE NUMBER OF SPIECES ARE SYSTEMATICALLYRELATED.MORE SO THE RIVERS WHICH ARE HOMEFOR MANY SPICES ARE POLLUTED BY HUMANACTIVITIES.HYBRIDISATION,OVER HUNTING,CLIMATECHANGE HOLOCENE EXTINCTION ARE THE MAJORCAUSES FOR THEIR EXTINCTION.DECLINE OF FORESTALSO RESULTS IN GLOBAL WARMING WHICHTHREATS THE WHOLE WORLD NOW.
  11. 11. CONSERVATION OF THE SPICESBECOMES A MATTER OF CONCERNDURING THE 20 TH CENTURY. MANYSTEPS AND EFFECTIVE MEASURES HAVEBEEN TAKEN TO CONSERVE NATURE.THEY HELP US IN MANY WAYS, BUT INTURN WE ARE KILLING THEM. IFPLANTS WERE NOT THERE WE ALSOWILL NOT BE HERE.AS THE ECO SYSTEMIS INTERDEPENDENT,THER IS ANECESSITY TO CONSERVE THEM.
  12. 12. SOME STEPS TO CONSERVE NATURE DESTRUCTION OF FOREST SHOUD BE BANNED HUNTING SHOULD ALSO BE BANNED. PLANT MORE TREES. ANIMALS SHOULD NOT BE ILLTREATED. THEY SHOULD RETAIN THEIR HABITATS AND ALLOW THEM TO BREED FREELY. BY FOLLOWING THESE MEASURES THE ENDANGERED SPECIES CAN BE RECOVERED.
  13. 13. WE SHOULD CONSERVE NATURETHERE BY PROTECTING OURFRIENDS AND FOES. THE WORLDIS NOTHING WITHOUT THEM. ASTHIS IS YEAR IS CELEBRATED ASTHE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OFBIODIVERSITY IT IS OUR DUTYTO CONSERVE THE SPIECES.
