Before entering the disc space Dr Pazmino fashions a tiny window over the lamina The Lamina is a shell of bone which lies over the spinal canal and nerve roots Removing a small sliver of bone from the lamina gives us access to the underlying nerve roots and the herniation which is compressing them.

Through the same tiny window made in the lamina Dr Pazmino gently retracts the nerve away from the herniated portion of the disc. With a separate instrument called a pituitary Dr Pazmino grabs the herniated disc fragment.
