The Hunger Games Book Series - Will This Become the Next Harry Potter or Twilight Document Transcript

  • 1. The Hunger Games Book SeriesWill This Become the Next Harry Potter or Twilight?
  • 2. I began this particular journey with nothing specialin mind. Ive heard about The Hunger Games. While browsingBarnes and Noble and Borders, Ive seen the book on the shelfsitting next to "Waiting for Superman" in the best seller aisle.Ive wanted to read it. But I never got around to it.Then I started hearing more and more. No special details, justlittle blurbs here and there saying how great the book is. Howexcellently written this book was. How amazing this book was,but no special details were ever spoken. And I can understandwhy now.I recently received a copy in the mail. Yay! A new book for meto read! This finally gave me the motivation to read through TheHunger Games, and I am glad I did. As of now, I am anxiouslyawaiting the other two books so I may finish the series.
  • 3. The Hunger Games is set in the distant future after Americagoes berserk. What follows is a corrupt and controllinggovernment surrounded by 13 districts. An uprising occurs and acivil war breaks out. The capitol and controlling governmentwins, wiping out district 13 in the process. As a reminder to theremaining 12, the Capitol holds The Hunger Games.Im not going to give any more of the story than that. Even thatmay be a bit much, but its only a small piece of backgroundinformation that doesnt hold much to the story other then why itexists. Ultimately why the Hunger Games exist, what they are,and how they are held is what is important.I fear writing any more of the story, giving small details andinformation, because I dont want to ruin the shock value. Theauthor, Suzanne Collins, Paints a picture that is so utterlyshocking and unthinkable. The brutality and nature of The Hunger Games supersedesonly the viciousness of what the Roman Empire was oncecapable of. The imagery, details, and ideas of this novel paint agraphic and grim time.
  • 4. The first pages will leave aperson depressed. Never could I, myself, imagine the hardshipsof the main character, and then it only gets worse. I feel sad forthe day that our society may ever reach this point.Suzanne Collins writing style is very first person. Its as blunt asa brick to the forehead. This kind of perspective is a little strongfor my taste, but after reading the novel I cant see any other wayof having it done. The strong first person perspective portraysthe emotion of the main character perfectly. The read receives an absolute sense of her strength, hatred, worry, terror, love, and confusion. There is a strong disconnectportrayed between the main character, her followers, and theCapitol, and through the eyes of her, you get a sense of how
  • 5. desensitized the population of the Capitol is, and how lonely anddread-filled the remaining 12 districts are. The Hunger Games is a book that provokes strong andconfusing emotions. You want the main character to succeedand to win, but at the same time, the acts she MUST commit areso very horrible and repulsive. You begin to feel the love andpassion, the hatred and terror she feels, and the plot line willleave you riveting for more. Throughout the pages youll be left wondering howsomething as horrible as the Hunger Games can exist, yet youwont be able to stop reading. I make the details of book out tobe perceived as horrible book. Yes, the content and plot line isunthinkable, but the book is amazing. The strong first person perspective does its job preciselyand exact. The author has provided an incredible story thatconveys more than a little amusement. I found it extremelydifficult to put down this book.
  • 6. After reading, I came to find out that a movie is beingproduced from the book. I could only think, "How on earth thisis even possible?" I am curious to see the movie, and after youread the book you will understand. I do recommend this novel. Its amazing and worth every penny.
