Sbs Class Nov.16 2008 (Glory part 2) - Presentation Transcript
Welcome to “Learning and Living the God-centered life” Carmel Baptist Church www.learningandlivingtheword.com November 16, 2008
Two questions of critical importance to every person
What is the goal of God in the creation and governing of this world? (learn)
How do we bring our lives into conformity with that goal? (live)
Which really becomes the basis for our class name and mission which is
“ Learning and Living the God-centered life”
If we don’t know the goal of God when it comes to:
“ What He says ” (1/2 of the Bible) about “ What He does (1/2 of the Bible) then we stand to live at cross purposes with God.
Nothing in your Christian life will be more satisfying than to know the goal of God and then be committed to live in sync with His goal.
So last week we started with this premise for the theme of the entire Bible:
God does everything that He does for His glory!
Genesis 11:1-4
Genesis 12:1
Why is Moses giving us this particular historical narrative?
To show us that God is choosing Abraham for the very purpose of why He created mankind
Which is:
You Abraham will rely on Me and give Me all the glory, instead of you relying on you and trying to make your own name great
This is why God created man and woman (Gen. 1:26-27)
Numbers 14:21
Habakkuk 2:14
A definition for the glory of God:
The glory of God is the beauty and excellence of his manifold perfections.
It is an attempt to put into words what God is like in his magnificence and purity.
It refers to God’s infinite and overflowing fullness of all that is good. The term might focus on His different attributes from time to time—like his power and wisdom and mercy and justice—because each one is indeed awesome and beautiful in its magnitude and quality.
But in general God's glory is the perfect harmony of all his attributes into one infinitely beautiful and personal being.
