BARNFIELD COMMUNITY OUR COMMUNITY  811 Dwellings  Approximately 2290 residents  Male 1145 / Female 1145  71.5% social housing and 26.1% private housing  Population reflects a large number of young families  Melting pot of different cultural groups: African, Caribbean, Eastern European, Irish, English, Somalian & Vietnamese 3

BARNFIELD COMMUNITY BARNFIELD COMMUNITY JOURNEY SO FAR:  Well London community engagement 2008  Increase in residents participation/stronger community cohesion  Friends of Barnfield – Formed 2009  Increase networking with stakeholders and decision makers  Significant reduction in anti-social behaviour  Fundraised £176K for a new play area 2010 / launched 2011  Friends of Barnfield Estate Ltd established 2011  Big Local/Getting People Involved - community engagement 2011/2012  Porta cabin and community centre taken off the Council disposable list  Friends of Barnfield Big Local Partnership formed 2012 4

BARNFIELD COMMUNITY WHERE ARE WE AT WITH OUR PLAN:  Porta Cabin – Temporary Hub  Negotiated for 9 year lease from Royal Borough of Greenwich  Barnfield Community Centre  Negotiated for 25 year lease from Royal Borough of Greenwich  Open Space Strategy  Social Investment / Greenwich Credit Union  Delivery of activities  Engaging with different stakeholders to help develop activities  Friends of Barnfield Estate Ltd working towards charity status 12

BARNFIELD COMMUNITY CHALLENGES  Having a hub for the community to meet and connect  Cost of temporary hub  Community is sceptical that they will never see a hub  Delivering the plan - impact on priorities/delivery of activities  Lots of work have gone on - residents can’t see it  Overloading volunteers  Convincing decision makers of needs/solutions around community issues  Stigma attached to the community - historical  Lack of trust / confidence  Not everyone can work with the Big Local programme  Statutory agencies v grassroots approach 13
