The UK Border Agency INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE UKBA Over 14,000 illegal attempts to cross the channel stopped since Jan this year Since 2007 100% of visas have been fingerprint based In August 2009 facial recognition technology was implemented in 10 UK terminals Since January this year 240 million smuggled cigarettes have been seized representing a potential loss of nearly £45 million in tax revenue

The Business Design and Development Directorate (BD3) <ul><li>The UKBA BD3 remit: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Joining up the Agency’s portfolio of projects and programmes to get better visibility of the overall IT related change portfolio, impacts and dependencies </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Managing our future business applications strategy, architecture and development </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Supporting the UKBA business with the resourcing and delivery of its project/programme portfolio </li></ul></ul><ul><li>In the last year BD3 has replaced over 60 long term contractors, succeeding even in difficult roles such as technical architects </li></ul>

Lessons Learned and Still To Do <ul><li>Still To Do </li></ul><ul><li>Educate the programmes on what we are offering and the benefits, in order to become the 1 st port of call for IT resources </li></ul><ul><li>Iron out recruitment processes </li></ul><ul><li>Improve onboarding – induction and welcome to the BD3 team </li></ul><ul><li>Build the BD3 reputation </li></ul><ul><li>Lessons Learned </li></ul><ul><li>Recruitment process took longer than expected </li></ul><ul><li>Investment required in recruitment was underestimated </li></ul><ul><li>Buy in from the Line Managers is vital and is required at the earliest stages </li></ul><ul><li>COIs required more investment </li></ul><ul><li>Keeping candidates warm through the process is vital </li></ul>
