  • 3. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentPoster design research andprint screens of Shelter website.Looked into both illustrated andphotographic poster conceptsfor charities to gain inspirationfor the project.I then went with the illustratedtake on the campaign as I felt itwould suit my target audiencemore and adapt to my ownindividual style of design.I took images off the internetand out of magazines to produce my visual research.I was unsure at first wether Iwanted to create an onlinecampaign poster or an offlineone, and my research persuadedme to go towards the offline.
  • 4. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentBrainstorming ideas of what emotions toportray through my campaign. Sketch-book notes and post-it notes were usedto explore the possibilities of differenttakes on the project.
  • 5. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentConducted facebook polls to findout how effective my campaignwould be. I asked questionsregarding how aware people aregenerally about homelessness andthe reasons behind the issue. Ifound out that my target audiencewould be people aged 17 - 25 asthey were the most unaware of theissue and the most influencial agerange. I think that this was asuccessful and reliable way to findout what people actually knowabout the issue, as facebook is asocial networking site that mostpeople use in this age group.
  • 6. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design Document Salvation army showing how awareness of this campaign and the issuesOutcome of research and what I surrounding homelessness can be understood more thoroughly and theneeded to do next. What I neededto outline and how it would be issues can be obliterated if people take the time to understand thesuccessful. A general outline of reasons.what conclusion I had created. I want to show a positive outcome - perhaps showing how the SA can provide residents and counselling as part of their aftercare program and charity policy. This may show how awareness and donations may help this happen to more people. Stereotyping of homeless people To be successful, I think we have to challenge society’s stereotypes of homeless and show that it can be anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they may fall homeless themselves. For instance, a soldier from war coming back to try and abide with normality again. People perhaps do not realise the extent and severity of the issue. Why do people stereotype? We have to undersand the initial reasons for stereotyping. People seem to judge what they do not necessarily understand as a result of ignorance of a particular issue. Because of this, people begin to categorise almost immediately without fully understanding what is going on

  • 8. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentTwo initial ideas rflecting myresearch of photographic campaignposters and illustration posters.I think that the illustration workedbetter in relation to engaging withthe TA, however I think that thephotographic image shows arelationship between the peopleeffected by the issue ofhomelessness and created a morepersonal connection.
  • 9. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design Document Ideas for online experience. Initial idea - concept taking over Facebook/Twitter to directly appeal to target audience.
  • 10. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design Document Facebook and Twitter take-over ideas - developed from the sketches from the drawing book. I don’t think these ideas worked very well for me, as I couldn’t really get a successful illustarted take onto the designs and I feel they are too serious for how I intended the pages to look. However, I think that the infomation areas on the Facebook page would look good and portray the correct info across efficiently and effectively.
  • 11. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentA continuation from the Twitter andFacebook takeover theme. I dislikethese images because I feel they donot connect directly to the targetaudience on a personal andemotional level. They are quite loud, which is sometimes unattractive inposter design, and as the subject of homelessness is quite sensitive, Ifeel it is too much of a contrast forthe designs to be successful.

  • 13. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentOther ideas and concepts thatdiverge away from the originalconcepts.
  • 14. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentI had the idea of a spooky take tothe project, however instead ofportraying a positive outlook ontothe situation where there could behelp out of misery, I figured thatperhaps a negative image wouldcreate a negative response, especially as the target audienceare quite young. I thought a moreinnocent approach would beeasier to attract my TA and appealto them more. Spookiness isalmost too childish andpretentious for a campaign suchas homelessness for the SalvationArmy, and would appear like thecampaign would be trying too hardto be successful.
  • 15. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design Document Idea of a tree. I liked this idea because I felt that the issue of homelessness is delicate, and the metaphor of a tree shows how other problems can branch out from one single issue. I have put issues on the leaves of the tree so when the audience would click onto them the problem would get uncovered and hopefully would help get solved by the user. This is the basis of my Flash animation website.
  • 16. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentPoster designs that reflect the treeconcept and the initial ideas for thepages for the Flash website.I liked the idea of keeping theimages quite sketchy and simple, also just having one colour toseperate the page, which reflectsmy design for the flash website.
  • 17. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentPoster concepts following the co-lour scheme and theme of the treeidea. These are all unsuccessful as Ifind that they are to simple andunappealing. The QR code, in an ideal world, would connect to the Flash websiteand connect the online and offlineexperience together for mycampaign. The tag line ‘What doeshomelessness mean to you?’ wasdecided in my final presentationthat it was too impersonal and non-influencial to an audience. I havechanged this tag line on the Flashsite to ‘What does having a homemean to you?’, which directlyengages with the audience.

  • 19. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentThis is my final poster/flyer designfor this project. I feel it is successfuleventhough it may only appeal toa female audience because of thecolour scheme, however I chosepink because I feel it is a delicatecolour and shows the issue in a lessaggressive way than the currenthomelessness campaigns such asShelter. I find that it is a current wayof appealing to a young audience,as the current SA campaign andlogo are in my opinion very out ofdate and out of touch with a young-er more influencial audience.
  • 20. DE0983 Emotion and Immersive Media Rebecca Eelbeck May 2012Interactive Media Design Design DocumentPrint screens of the final Flash prototype.I find that this was successful seeing as it was my first ever attempt at a flash animation, however there are stillsome existing errors in the running of the animation that I would hope to iron out for future projects.I find that some of the infomation pages are bland with not enough infomation on them to fulfil the purpose ofthe campaign, however I feel that it would attract the right audience and portray the correct attitude towardshomelessness.
