  1. 1. Treatments and IdeaDevelopmentBy Baya Lee Safhill
  2. 2. TreatmentsI am going to look into four different themeswhich we could use for our recipe cards. These four themes will be;•Summer•Winter•Halloween•Valentines Day
  3. 3. Summer ThemeTreatment OneBaya Lee Safhill
  4. 4. Summer ThemeThis is my first theme which I am going to lookat. In order to look into this I will be look ideasand connotations that are associated withsummer, as well as what foods are classified assummer foods, as well as examples of cards thatI like, and what fonts will go well with thistheme, as well as colours. I will also look at whatbanners there are available to make the cardsfeel ‘summery’ to the audience.
  5. 5. SummerThe previous slide shows pictures of thingsassociated with summer; clothes, sunflowers, poppies, dresses, sandals, images of the sun andbeaches. These create an idea of summer in ouraudiences mind because we associate thesewith summer.
  6. 6. Summer FoodThe previous slide shows pictures of foodswhich are considered to be summer foods. These include Watermelon, ice lollies, cucumber, salads, sorbets and ice creams, smoothies, cocktails, chipsticks, candyfloss andof course the seaside favourite fish and chips.I need to make sure that the recipes on thecards are going to fit this theme in an interestingway in order to make sure that the audienceunderstands that these cards are for summerfoods.
  7. 7. Previously Produced ProductsThe previous slide shows examples of cards that have been produced alreadywhich feature the summer theme and recipes. The colours used are bright and colourful and feature prints which arerelatable to summer. The cards however feature garish colours that arebright and highly saturated, such as pinks, yellows, and purples/ lilacs. The recipes themselves are very summery and feature mussels, fruit salads, light pancakes with fruit and a tart that is considered summery. All of theserecipes could be served up at a picnic or used in a garden party. There is alsoa recipe for a Mexican Sandwich and we associate this with being summerybecause of tea parties featuring sandwiches. The photographs are shot in a way which makes the audience feel that theseare summer recipes; for example the photograph of the mussels is shownwith a bottle of cider and this creates a pub garden imagery in the audienceheads, and the photograph of the Torta Sandwich has been photographedoutside and next to a bowl on a bench, this again brings images of thesummer into the audiences minds.
  8. 8. FontsFonts are important in helping to create a theme. Theprevious slide shows a range of fonts that I have pickedif I was going to create a summer theme set of cards. Ihave picked these fonts because I feel that they createa summer theme. They are all creative and offer anelement of fun and this will work well along side oversaturated colours and patterns. Most are Serif becausethey are very feminine. They all create a softer look tothe text in an interesting way.
  9. 9. Banners and GraphicsThe previous slide shows examples of bannersand graphics which I feel are summery. Thecolours used are very important in creating thisassociation. They feature bright colours and most use curvesto offer a softer touch.

In order to look into this I will be lookideas and connotations that are associated withwinter, as well as what foods are classified aswinter foods, as well as examples of cards that Ilike, and what fonts will go well with this theme,as well as colours. These include Christmasfoods such as Christmas Dinner, mince pies, mulledwine and Christmas Pudding but also foods that arefilling and hearty such as casseroles, stews and wintermuffins. We need to make sure that the recipes on the cards aregoing to fit this theme in an interesting way in order tomake sure that the audience understands that thesecards are for winter foods.
  14. 14. Previously Produced ProductsThe previous slide shows examples of cards that have been produced alreadywhich feature the winter theme and recipes. The colours used are bright and rich and feature ‘royal’ colours that areassociated with luxury and Christmas festivities; such as Purples and Golds. The cards however feature garish colours that are bright and bold andinclude purple, gold, silver, and red.The recipes themselves are very festive and wintery and feature festiverecipes such as a filo pie and an untraditional sushi which is Christmassy. Allof these recipes could be served up at a festive get together. The photographs are shot in a way which makes the audience feel that theseare winter recipes; for example, the photographs are very high in quality andthe food looks luxurious. 31. 31. Evaluation of Chosen IdeaI am going to choose to create a set of recipecards that feature the summer theme. I havechosen to create this theme because theaudience preferred summer foods to winterfoods in the first part of our research. I also feelthat the summer theme is more interesting tocreate, and the recipes which will be used anddeveloped from will be easy to do. I would liketo create a set of recipe cards that are basedaround salads, as I feel these are versatile andanyone could create and enjoy these. Saladsare also easy to adapt. I prefer the colourschemes of a summer theme as bright coloursthat are over saturated can be used; theseinclude blues, yellows, pinks etc.
  32. 32. Difficulties I Could FaceWith This Theme• Difficulties – ingredients, photography (notthe right season), only appeal to people oneseason of the year – people’s favourite, reliving the summer through the cards.
