There had been a recent uproar, through essays, newscasts, and even government
inquiries, regarding video games. Many are putting the blame on video game content for
children, teens, and adults doing criminal acts in real life.
This topic is a good subject for discussion in term papers. The paper can tackle whether
video games really do play a role in the mentality of the people who are playing them. The
term paper can also try to discuss whether the interactivity of the video game should make
it held at a different standard than sexually suggestive movies, or violent television
programs. Lastly, writers can also focus on a specific video game and discuss the why
they have become highly controversial.
Some controversial video games that can be used in term papers are:
1. G r a n d T h e f t a u t o s e r i e s – No game has received as much media
attention for its violence and sexual content than the Grand Theft Auto set of
games. term papers could focus on how the series is able to thrive with these
aspects despite severe opposition from government characters and citizen
watchdogs.
2. R a p e l a y – The term paper could also be about a game that was released in
Japan. Rapelay is one of the more daring games that was ever released. It was a
rape simulator and had a protagonist whose main goal was to be able to
successfully rape women. The term papers could focus on the varying cultural
differences that enables a game like this to be released in other countries, while it
would have been skewered if it was done so in the states.
3. D o o m – While violent games had already been in the market before this game
was launched, Doom was one of the better games that were able to balance gore
and gameplay. A writer could create term papers using Doom as a centerpiece for
discussing the history of violent/controversial video games.
