  3. 3. The term "World Wide Web" refers to all of the publicly accessibleweb sites in the world, in addition to other information sources thatweb browsers can access. With a web browser, one can view webpages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia,and navigate between them via hyperlinks. It was invented by TimBerners Lee who was a well known British computer scientist. He isthe director of the World Wide Web Consortium(W3C)which oversees the Web’s continued development.

  5. 5. # The first and foremost is to know about HTML(HypertextMarkup Language). HTML helps in providing hypertext links andallows the users to see webpage associated with the websites.These hypertext links allows the users to move from one websiteto another.
  6. 6. # Typically internet follows Client/server model where web-browsersacts as client software on the remote machine. The server software ishosted on the web server which acts as host.
  7. 7. # A web browser contains URL(Uniform resource locators) where thevisitors can specify the website they intend to see. A web browser alsocontains hyperlinks through which they can get connected to thewebpage they want to reach. When the web browser sends the URLrequest using HTTP(Hypertext Transfer Protocol), then the webbrowser and the web server gets connected in order to get the desiredresult.
  8. 8. # An URL consists of several parts. The first part-the http:// - whichis used for internet protocol. The second part is www -that tellswhat kind of Internet resource is being contacted. The third for Web server identification.
  9. 9. # As soon as a request is sent on internet, the internet routers sendthem to the web servers taking the reference of the URL that isspecified on the address bar. It goes to the specified web server andsearch for the website that is specified by the visitor.The web server then converts this request made in domain nameformat internally into IP address format so that the system canrecognize. If any match is found then the process now occur viceversa and fetches us the required website. This whole process istermed as Domain Name Resolution.

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical labelassigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participatingin a compute network that uses the Internet Protocol forcommunication. An IP address serves two principal functions:host or network interface identification andlocation addressing.IP addresses are binary numbers, but they are usually stored intext files and displayed in human-readable notations, such as172.16.254.1
  11. 11. # When the server finds the requested home page or any relatedinformations about the website then it displays the result on theweb browser.This is how the world wide web works.
