  3. 3. What is CRS??• A computer reservations system or central reservation system(CRS) is a computerized system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel.• CRS were later extended for the use of travel agencies.
  4. 4. GDS• Major CRS operations that book and sell tickets for multiple airlines are known as global distribution systems (GDS).• The airline industry created the first GDS in the 1960s as a way to keep track of flight schedules, availability, and prices.• By the mid 1970s,SABRE (owned by American Airline) and Apollo (United) began installing their propriety internal reservations systems in travel agencies.
  5. 5. • Airlines have divested most of their direct holdings to dedicated GDS companies, who make their systems accessible to consumers through Internet gateways.• GDS allow users to book hotel, rental cars, airlines tickets as well as cruise line.
