Barak Obama's win over john McCain made history because:
he is the first black president of the USA
There was a record number of voters
It was the first election to be fought online
Black History
African Americans were originally shipped to America as slaves
After suffering centuries of persecution and prejudice (as slaves and by white supremacy organisations like the Ku Klux Klan) black people have risen socially and are now considered equals to white people.
Historic Black People The following slides are about some famous black people and why they were influential on world history
Martin Luther King
This man was the head of the campaign to stop apartheid and make black and white people equal
He was a firm believer in non violent protests
He was arrested many times but he never lost faith
Rosa Parks
She made history when she refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white man
She was arrested for doing this
She is sometimes known as the mother of the modern civil rights movement
Jesse Jackson
He ran in presidential elections in 1984 and 1988, and although he lost both, he was the only black man before Barak Obama to run for president of the United States
He was a helper of Martin Luther King and marched in Alabama and Selma
Thank you for watching
I hope this helped explain why Obama’s win made history
