  • 2. Objectives
    • To develop a professional informative brochure or pamphlet
    • To develop a professional and informative newsletter .
  • 3. Text Boxes
    • Text boxes allow more flexibility when making brochures and newsletters.
    • Text boxes can be moved, resized, and colored separately from the rest of the document.
    • To insert a ‘text box’, select ‘Insert’ from the menu, and choose, ‘text box’.
    • The cursor will change to a cross-hair or plus sign.
    • Click and drag over the space where you would like the text box.
    • The size of text boxes can be changed after they are inserted.
  • 4. Templates
    • A template is a document or file having a preset format, used as a starting point for a particular application so that the format does not have to be recreated each time it is used.
    • Some templates come with Microsoft Word and many come with MS Publisher
    • More templates can be download from the Microsoft Office Home Page
  • 5. Templates
    • To find templates, open Microsoft Word
    • Under ‘File’ in the menu, select ‘New’
    • Find the template for your needs.
  • 6. Templates
    • Other templates are stored on the instructors web page.
    • There are 2 templates (samples) of brochures and 2 templates of newsletters.
    • These can be downloaded (right click and select ‘save target as..’)
    • Once download, open up the template and replace its content (words, pictures, etc.) with content related to your topic.
  • 7. Publications Assignment
    • Locate information and graphics on the Web. Save to the desktop as needed.
    • Develop a professional brochure on a PE topic of your choice using MS Word or MS Publisher
      • You can use a template or a blank word document
      • If you start with a blank document, you’ll need to insert 3 columns to make it a foldable brochure.
    • Include information on “ both sides” of the brochure which means your brochure will be two pages long; one page for the front and back and another page for the inside.
    • Include the following minimum criteria:
      • Data/information/details, etc. about the topic or facility or team.
      • Two Logos and/or Pictures
      • Bulleted/Numbered items
      • Contact information
    • Email a copy to Dr. Emmett
  • 8. Publications Assignment

    • Develop a professional one page newsletter on a PE related topic using MS Word or MS Publication.
      • You can use a template or a blank word document
    • Include the following minimum criteria
      • Data/information/details, etc. about the topic or facility or team.

      • Graphics/Design
      • Contact information
    • Email a copy to Dr. Emmett
  • 9. Topics / Subjects
    • Exercise Science
      • Exercise prescription
      • Exercise and disease
      • Exercise and special population
    • Exercise Administration
      • Sports/event promotion
      • Informational
      • Fund-raiser
  • 10. NOTE
    • Brochures and Newsletters will be graded according to the criteria but also their overall look; the more professional the better.
  • 11. Summary of Assignments
    • Brochure minimum criteria :
      • Actual data/information/details, etc.
      • Two Logos and/or Pictures
      • Bulleted/Numbered items
      • Contact information
    • Newsletter minimum criteria :
      • Actual data/information/details, etc.
      • Insert a photo
      • Insert a text box
    • Due date: Monday, Sep 26th before 12:00 noon.
