      • Anticipate my triggers and the other person’s objections
      • Think through message content: be clear and concise
      • Defuse emotions
      Staying Centered in the Midst of Chaos<br />
      • Take time to be and feel: meditate, breathe deeply, focus on your body
      • Stop, step back, pay attention to what is going on
      • Refocus on first principles and goals: what are you trying to accomplish?
      Resilience<br />
      • Create a passionate vision to help you keep coming back
      • Engage in good self-care to support your persistence
      • Discipline: work toward your goal X hours every day.
      Self-Esteem<br />
      • Develop self-awareness: where are feelings of low self-esteem coming from?
      • Engage in self-care to help you feel worthwhile. Forgive yourself. Remember, “Yesterday was a long time ago.”
      • Take that first step toward your desired goal, however small, and build on it incrementally.
      Flexibility<br />
      • Experiment, even in a small way, to do something differently
      • Role play alternative perspectives
      • Discern where flexibility is useful and where clearer boundaries would be more helpful
      Self-Awareness<br />
      • Meditate 15 minutes every day (tai chi, sitting, mindfulness)
      • Engage in activities that force you to be in the now (sailing, yoga, surfing)
      • Develop the skill of “Introspective Hesitation”
      Courage<br />
      • Face a fear (performing, public speaking, selling)
      • Develop competency in a capability. Understand your competence.
      • Draw on the strength of others.
