STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Dr. Azadeh Asgari
To orientate thinking and to attract the attention of the reader towards the problem being investigated.
The researcher needs to convince the reader that the topic chosen consists of important problems and solving them will contribute towards knowledge development.
Needs to highlight briefly the background on what is to be investigated, which has been stated in greater detail in the background of the study (e.g. History, development, current status and problems that exist).
Explain the importance of investigating the problem(s) and the implications, if it is not studied.
Usually short – about 3 pages.
May pose questions which are in the mind of the researcher (these are not research questions).
Significance of the Study
State clearly why it is important that this research be done.
Could be looked at from two angles:
To add knowledge or theory to the body of knowledge in the field
To be used by certain individuals and in what way the information may assist the individuals.
Limitations of the Study
Scope of study refers to the DEPTH and the width of the study.
Limitations of the study refers to the LIMITS OR DELIMITS of the research.
